Houston Babies

holy pain, batman!

So I had DD 3/11 5:30pm, 8 lbs. 10 oz. 20 inches long! She's beautiful and so far does nothing but sleep and eat. seriously. first night home, she slept from 2-9 with a wake up at 6 just long enough to change her diaper.

So- more about that later- The stupid drug doctor (because I don't know how to spell the other word), messed up the first round of epidural, doing a 'wet tap'. turns out that this causes massive headaches from spinal fluid leakage and friday all I did was sleep because i couldn't keep my eyes open due to pain. all pain meds they gave me, i threw right up. so after telling everyone that came in that I had a massive headache and backpains that are about to kill me, one nurse came in and said "if the headache's in your eyes, but not bothering you when you lay down, then that's not sinus (what all the other nurses/doctors were saying) that's spinal headache! so off i went to the O.R. for a spinal patch. They take blood from your arm and insert it into the "missed" spot on your back to form a dam sort of to stop the drainage. ummm.... worked for the rest of the night and Saturday. Yesterday, my back started hurting again,  real stiff, no big deal. I can deal with that. this morning. can't stand light, my eyes are killing me, my neck is killing me, it's a big fat repeat of Friday!!!!!!!!!!

I am sooo ticked that all i can do is sleep and am missing this time with my son. and also at the possibility that the spinal patch didn't work... i'll be super pissed if i have to go through that again because it HURT LIKE HELL!!!!

so- anyone else have this issue?problems with the epi? ugh....good thing that was my last pregnancy... because i would never ever wish this pain on anyone!

Re: holy pain, batman!

  • Okay, first I'm sorry about what you went through but I had to LOL when I saw this because I JUST posted "holy pain Batman" about my swollen feet on FB!

I digress...obviously I have no experience here but wanted to say I'm sorry you're in pain. Can't wait to see pics of your little one though.

  • My SIL went thru the same thing when she had my nephew.  She had to go back to the ER and they had to do it again.  She spent the next couple of days in bed and was back to feeling better within a few days.  Sorry you are having to go thru this.

  • i'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. what a pain (no pun intended). i had a friend who went through something similar and she knew someone else before her. their story was part of the reason that i really tried (like 17 hours of unmedicated labor tried. lol) for a natural birth. i guess the silver lining is it's not so uncommon. they should know the hows and whys and hopefully be able to deal with it for you quickly!

    and congrats :)

  • So sorry you are going through that.....the entire epidural experience freaked me out so much so I had an anxiety attack on the table.  Thankfully I made it out alright.  Good luck I hope you get some relief soon.

And congrats, our kiddos had almost the exact same stats.  8 lbs. 10 oz 20 1/2 inches long :)

  • i had a great epidural with my first and then a wet tap with my second.  although they knew they did it when it happened and told me to expect the headache.  of course it came and we tried briefly the caffiene drip and then quickly did the blood patch.  unfortunately for me, the first blood batch failed after i got home and we went back to the hospital and had to have another one a day later.  i did not get off my back after the second one for 2 days just to make sure the second blood patch didn't fail.

i know what you mean about not being able to be comfortable while bonding with your new little one.  the good news is you forget all about it when you feel better and you will soon.  i think within a week and a half i was back to normal.  but i agree, that is significant pain!

    good luck!

  • ouch!  I hope you feel better soon!
  • Oh no!  I am so sorry!  I hope they fix it and you get to feeling better soon.
