I should remember this - I've been pg enough but I can't. I want to avoid an internal ultrasound - I always end up with spotting and I'm already on pins and needles enough. When were you first successfully able to have an external ultrasound? TIA
Mine was at 7w5d but I was at a high risk office with really awesome u/s equipment. We did have to do an internal for a few minutes to get the measurements of one baby that we couldn't get via external.
thanks ladies. I'm not going till I'm 9 weeks and will have a u/s then - hopefully it can be external. I also see a high risk dr so they have good equipment. With my DD I had to have internal toward the end because she was so low they could not see my cervix - it was so uncomfortable and I know I always spot after - I just want to avoid it if possible.
At 4w5d, it's probably too early for an u/s at all, let alone an external one. At 5w is typically when you see a sac and during the 6th week is when you typially see a pole/heartbeat--but this is all with internal.
Some people have had success with externals in their 7th week, but most doctors offices use internal until 12 weeks or after, when your ute has risen out of your pelvis.

I just had mine at 10 weeks. I said I am on pelvic rest I do not want that in me. they said ok and gave me an external.
I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and they gave me an internal. I spotted after because of it.
