f/u to supply tanking

I think a clogged duct may be part of the problem.

I started taking the MMP I had yesterday. Last night I felt pretty full. Ari nursed three times total last night but seemed very unsettled after nursing on my right side. He's teething right now so I didn't think much of it. This morning that boob was hard as a rock. I took an extra warm shower, massaged, all that. I'm pumping now & in 10 minutes only 1/2 oz has come out, vs 3 on the left.

I noticed my production was a little off on that side more than the other last week, but nothing unusual. I just left a mssg w/ the hospital LC group. This crap hurts!!! I feel like I'm 5 days pp again.

  • You want to put hot on after you pump, and cool compresses on right before... the cool will decrease the swelling and hopefully release the clog. The warm will increase blood flow to the area, and increase swelling. If you can manage it, have Ari nurse with his chin pointing towards the clog.

He won't even nurse on that side now. Nothing is coming out. I'll try alternating the compresses though, thanks for the tip.

  • it may not work b/c Ari is older, but if you hold him in the same position as he would nurse on the left side (so if you nurse in cradle hold on the left side with feet pointing right) then try keeping him that same direction only on the other side. So, nursing on the right but with feet still pointing right.. does that make sense? It worked with Emmy when she was refusing the left side.
  • I'll try that. I think he's just getting frustrated b/c there isn't anything coming out. I just had the pump on full blast, was massaging/compressing & leaning over & it was like dribble... dribble... dribble...

20 minutes later I have an oz to show for all that. I usually get 3-4 if I'm moderately engorged & pump for 15! Bah!!

Maybe I'll start him on the "good" side & switch in the same position when I let down. Maybe that will give him enough to make him happy for a few minutes of nursing on that side.

  • yuck.  so sorry to hear that.  Ibuprofen, heat, shower and massage help me the most.  Hand expressing worked a lot better than the pump.  Also, someone suggested Lechtithin (sp?) and posted some great articles.  In combination with everything else, it seemed to work.
