Success after IF

Friend is thisclose to being fired (she thinks)

She has never ever worked. I've only known her for 5 years and in that 5 years she has been a SAHM.  Before that she was in Nursing school and dropped out when she got pg.  Before that she didn't work- not sure if she went to college before nursing school.  Anyway, her DH told her she had to get a job now since their son is in school now (he's 5). So she did.

She got a job in November as a team technician for a great Hospital here in SC.  Not sure what a team tech does, but she works on a PRN schedule.  So she works as needed.  Also, if someone calls her to work, she can say "no" (but of course she wouldn't get paid).

Well for the past few weeks everytime she gets called to work she'll say "okay"  but then call back the night before or morning of and say she can't come in because she doesn't have a babysitter for her son which isn't true he goes to school and her mom watches him when friend works.  Then she sends her DS to school and sits on the couch all day or goes tanning or whatever else she did before she worked.  She just doesn't want to work and when her DH asks her how come she hasnt worked all week (or all month) she just says "Oh they didn't me it's been slow".

Well her boss called her in for a meeting, so friend thinks she might be getting fired.  I guess with all these excuses, she might.   I know if I called her in to work and she kept saying "no" I'd rethink her job status.

Hmmm maybe I'll ask her how work is next time I talk to her.

  • People are amazing!!  I think the hardest part of this story for me is the 'lies' that she tells her husband.  To each their own.
  • Well, I would fire her as well. She tells them she will work and then she backs out at the last minute. Not exactly employee of the year. That is like being a substitute teacher and saying you will teach and then calling in. That is just unacceptable and honestly I hope she does get fired. I am sure her DH would be thrilled.

  • sounds like she is getting fired. frankly she deserves it, she's a pretty crappy employee.  she's lucky to have any job in this economy... especially since she has no degree and little/no work experience.

and don't even get me started on the lying to her husband.

  • I agree with the pp that the other amazing part is that she agrees to take the gig for the day and then backs out last minute.  Why not just quit and don't tell DH?  I am sure when she gets fired it will be another story from the truth...

  • Wow.  Where to even start.  Provided she isn't doing this out of some sort of depression, this is really immature behavior - not being reliable at work, lying to her husband, etc.  She deserves to be fired, and that's really a sad thing to say in this economy.

It apprears that way.  Oh but her DH took away her debit card- which is also his debit card since the money she is spending is coming from their joint account.

  • Oh what's funny is that I work on as needed basis like she does. Not the same work, I work for a Financial company and cover if someone is out on vacation, sick, whatever.  Everytime I have been called I have worked. The only times I have said "no" was if I was already working for someone else or if I didn't have anyone to watch DS- which I can count on one hand that has happened.  Sure there are days that I'd rather say no and stay home with DS, but I figure if I say no 100 times to the same person then that person will never call me again.   I also say "yes" because I never know when I'll be working again after that time is up.

Right now I am working in an office and will be here for the foreseeable future until the girl I am covering for decides if she wants to come back to work (she's on medical leave).  After this gig is up I have nothing on the horizon until May or June.

  • Well, if her husband finds out she's a lazy liar, she'll probably have to work once she's divorced.  Problem solved!
