Hi All,
This is my 2nd baby but my first was born at the "old" Prentice (3 years ago in May). I also had a bit of an odd experience as my son was a preemie so nothing post delivery was "normal."
I'm hoping to go full-term this time and would like your best tips on how to take full advantage of the amenities at the new Prentice. Things you liked or didn't like?
Also, do they have tubs that you can labor in?
Thanks!
Re: Prentice tips?
They do have tubs for laboring in, but you need to check with your Dr to see if their practice allows you to use them. There are a limited number of tubs available, and only certain rooms that they can set them up in, so you need to request one while you are in Triage before you are moved to a room on the L&D floor. I was originally with one medical group that said they do not allow the tubs for their patients. I switched over to the midwife group and ended up giving birth to DS in the tub. It was amazing!
My only other advice would be to bring your own bath towel for when you are moved to Recovery. I found the hospital bath towels to be very small. Also, I had a bad experience with the Lactation Consultant and the nurses trying to get DS to latch and nurse. I don't know if this is true, but I heard that Prentice laid off almost all of their LC's. If you think you might need help with breastfeeding I would consider bringing in your own LC, or at least have a number of one on hand in case you have any problems with the one's the hospital provides.
The L&D rooms at Prentice are beautiful. Other than the troubles with breastfeeding I had an excellent experience at Prentice!
I agree with everyone, bring some nice stuff from home if you don't want to use the regular hospital stuff. The rooms are very nice. A friend of mine used the tubs for her daughter's birth, but like PP said, you have to set that up in advance.
And I had a bad expierence with the LC there. It was almost impossible to get a hold of one and I never actually got to meet her, just talk on the phone. Thankfully I had one come to the house and that helped a lot.
GL!
