DH and I were discussing this last night, and we still haven't really decided when we would tell our close friends and family if we get pg. If we tell DH's mom, and tell her not tell everyone else yet... we both know that somehow word will get out, so we're thinking of holding off until I'm at least 2 months pg, but I don't know if DH and I will be able to contain our excitement that long.

Re: Clicky Poll: How long will you wait?
I voted SS... I would most definitely tell my mom probably a week or two after we find out (after having to fib to her last cycle that I hadn't gotten my b/w back, and then having to tell her I was pg. with out her getting any of the excitement out of it was hard).
I would want my mom there if heaven forbid something bad happened again.
Everyone else, we would wait until at least 8 weeks when you get the first u/s.

I voted SS. We want to wait until we hear the heartbeat. I'm not sure when that would be, maybe around 8 weeks? We'll tell family and friends then but probably wait a little longer to tell work.
After the first trimester this time. Last time we told right away.
I would like to hear the h/b and have the first ultrasound before telling (we do get the NT scan done, and that is 12 weeks, right before the end of the 1st tri.). I own a doppler, so I should be able to get the h/b before then but who knows.
You can get h/b on doppler as early as 8-9 weeks (usually only if you are VERY thin) but most won't try until 11-12 at the earliest. If you get an u/s that is different but early ultrasounds are not standard unless you are high risk, don't know when LMP was, or have spotting.
I want to wait as long as possible before telling family and friends...maybe after the first tri...
I would tell my bestie though, so we have someone to confide in, and maybe my one coworker I told we were trying (If morning sickness is an issue). Otherwise, I don't want to let it out too early...in case something bad happens.

Im a special snowflake!
Our parents will be told right away. I would need their support if it ended badly.
Close close family, after we hear the heartbeat.
Everyone else, after the first tri.

I voted SS too. I will probably tell my very best friend and my parents and sisters very soon after we find out. Then I will threaten all of their lives if they say a word to anyone!! And I WILL follow through on that
As for everyone else -- we will def wait until we hear a heartbeat and I would like to wait until I am 12 weeks.
BUT I live in a very small town, and word travels fast, and I mean FAST! So probably any plans we have of waiting will go out the window!
This exactly!
I voted SS.
We want to wait until we hear the heartbeat. Because of my high-risk status, we will be doing ultrasounds much earlier into my pregnancy.
And depending on the advice and opinion of the perinatologist about the way the pregnancy looks in the early weeks, we may hold off.
It's hard to say right now.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
Same here!
I am SUCH a special snowflake on this one. I am going to have to tell some co-workers FIRST before anyone else.
I work in retail and spend a lot of my time on a ladder doing visual things. This will stop the second I get a BFP, so I will need to tell my boss and co-manager so they can help rearrange duties/understand WHY I am all of the sudden refusing to climb 10 feet up in the air. I will not tell anyone else at work until 13 weeks. I'm sure they will guess when I am no longer drinking coffee every 2 seconds of the day though.
I will tell my mom and MIL once a pregnancy is confirmed by the doctor. Close friends and family won't find out until 13 weeks.
We're going to tell as soon as it's confirmed by a doctor. Although I'm sure I'll have to tell someone as soon as I poas if it's positive.
SS - I will tell my parents, sister & BIL, and DH parents immediately. I will tell VERY close friends after 1st apt. Then rest of family/friends after we hear the heartbeat. Everyone else after the first tri.
The first time around we only told immediate family right away. Then two friends around 8 wks. Then everyone else after 13wks.

Parents and ILs - When we find out.
Siblings - 8 weeks or sooner. Depends on how long we can go without BIL guessing since I am not drinking wine at dinner. The rest are OOT. My aunt will know at this point but DH will not know that. She can be trusted....my DH's aunts cannot.
Everyone Else - After the first Tri.
This exactly.

SS here. A lot of DH's family would be considered close family.
I don't think I could get away with hiding it from my mom/sister much past a couple days beyond peeing on a stick- I think we'd probably tell the general "close family" population around 6-8 weeks though and let it spread from there over the gossip network. Probably make a general announcement around 12 weeks for anyone who missed it.
