This is a respost from another board, I just want as many opinions as I can get ![]()
I had my first ultrasound today which went great!! Baby is measuring right at 7 weeks and I go back on the 29th for another ultrasound to make sure everything is on track.
But at my appt today my dr found I have bacterial vaginosis...which is pretty much not a huge deal according to my nurse until you are further along because it can lead to preterm labor. Well I pick up my prescription because the dr wants to clear it up, and they give me the generic of Flagl (Metronidazole) and there specifically on the precautions its says "this drug should not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy". So now of course I am freaked out. I have done research on the web and it pretty much says it caused birth defects in rats but has not shown to have affects on humans. It is considered a class B drug which is not tested on fetuses and says Tylenol is also a class B drug. So obvoiusly I have called and left my dr a message but he would not prescribe it without knowing is more helpful than bad right? That is what the pharmacist told me as well, but she said to call my dr to confirm. Has anyone taken this antibiotic while pregnant?

Re: Has anyone taken Flagly (Metronidazole) while pregnant?
I'm 99% sure that I took it while I was pg, but I'm also 99% sure I was in my late 2nd tri.
I would hold off until I heard from my dr, but I have to believe that he wouldn't prescribe it if he wasn't confidant that it would do more good than harm.
I'm no help either but I can tell you we use it for dogs all the time at the vet's office I work at. I always figure, can't be too harmful if we give it to animals all the time...right?
I'd definitely wait to talk to your doctor about your concerns!
Sub 2nd tri for 3rd tri and I agree with all of the above

its fine. ive taken it for the same reason while bf-ing, and last week. my doc gave me the ok, but only for 5 days.
i dont know about the oral kind, but ive been having to take the..."non oral" kind, lol. side effects are a tad gross though, fyi.
I just talked to teh nurse and they had my dates mixed up! I have no idea how as I clarified everything yesterday but with my miscarriage and pregnancy happening so close, they thought I was 12 weeks when prescribing...so they are going to give me the cream instead of the oral.
Kimthgr8, what are the side affects of the non oral kind?

The non-oral requires you to wear at bare minimum a pantyliner the entire time for the excess.
I had the gel but I am pretty sure I was either in my 2nd or 3rd tri.
ill pm you, its pretty gross, LOL
