Question for those who want to leave work early before baby comes, but can't

I would really love to take the last few weeks of my pregnancy off of work, to relax, nest, etc but I can't b/c we can't afford it :( I have a healthy pregnancy (Thank God) so I can't qualify for disability, but it just stinks b/c I wanted to enjoy the last few weeks without working. Anyone else feel this way?

  • Yep. I'm in the same boat. I'd love to have this week and next week off so I don't have to deal with the "Oh...no baby yet?" crap.

  • Well with my DS I was out of work a month early which was way too much and made time go by so slow. There is only so much preparing you can do. This time I am still at work...5 more days or so left and it seems to go by much faster. The only thing is I am getting annoyed with walking into work everyday and hearing "You are still here?"
  • I do! I have about 25days of leave saved up....I get 6wks maternity leave that starts the day I leave the hospital after giving birth...I COULD take those 25 days whenever I like, and get paid BUT I don't want to waste the time sitting around doing nothing, and I figure I might want to take a few extra days or weeks on the back end of my mat leave, and I'll need them for when the kids can't go to daycare, ETC....SO I decided I'd take leave the week before my EDD, if I make it that far, hopefully I won't.
  • I was planning to take off the two weeks before my due date, which would have been covered by my pregnancy disability, but my doctor had me stop four weeks before that. Those weeks are covered by regular disability. It's a long time.

  • I'm planning on going on leave at 38 weeks, 3 days.  I'm already having to cut back due to how my body is responding to the physical demands of my job.  I had originally planned to work full time all the way up until my delivery day, but its just not going to happen.  Thankfully we're way ahead of what we had planned to save for my leave so it won't hurt us too bad.

  • i'm in the same boat.  i will be working until my due date & maybe beyond if my dr. says it's okay.  it wouldn't pay for me to stay in my current job (part-time & pay is not that great, no benefits or anything) so i will be job searching during my "maternity leave", so the longer i work the better!

  • i can take the 2 weeks before my due date off as paid leave with my 6 or 8 weeks after the baby. i plan on doing that, but i have a feeling that i'll go before that. so who knows!
  • I want to, but i'd rather save my time off for when LO gets here so I am going to try to work as long as I can.

  • I'd shoot myself.

I worked up until the day before I delivered DS and I'm so glad I did.  I think it's torturous to sit around your house and wait to go into labor. It's just not something I'm interested in doing, I guess.

This. Staying busy has been great. I don't really think about waiting to go into labor. My mind is occupied.

  • My scheduled section is on a Friday, I may work the mon and tue of that week or the whole week half days...

I actually took the day off today to do my taxes and have some me time and it was GREAT!!

  • Knowing how much we still have to do, I would love to take some time off early to get as much done as possible and to just relax for a couple of days.  But I'd rather have the time after delivery more.
  • I can't afford it either. I would love it just so I can get things done around the house. I sure don't feel like doing anything when I get home at 5:00.

  • do you have any vacation time you can take?

my due date falls the week after easter, so it was easy for me to make april 1st my last day of work, so i will officially have a week off prior... now if i go over my due date who knows??? i get four weeks of vacation each year at my job and have not used any of it yet this year... (thank god they let me flex time for my dr appts). so i will just need to take 3 days of vaca before my due date since my maternity leave does not kick in until baby comes!
