Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone take their LO on a cruise?

We are thinking about going on a cruise and wondering how LO who will be 14months then will do on a ship.  Anyone have any experience with cruising with baby?  Thanks.

  • We were going to but we decided not to. She would have been 17 months. They don't do the kid's club thing until they're two. I just didn't think we would be able to go on any excursions with her. If we were going to be at sea more I would have taken her.

  • We were on a cruise last year (it was our 1st one) and DS didn't go. I was SO thankful. It would have really been annoying...with his naps and all b/c he doesn't sleep in the stroller at all.

I would NEVER take my LO until they were at least potty trained...NO diapers or swim diapers allowed in the pool. There isn't much else to do with them on the cruise (on the days at sea).

Our friends took their kids last year. They were 2 and 5 then. The 5 year old was fine, but the 2 year old was not fine all of the time. I think 2 was still too young to be on the cruise. She refused to go in the kids club, even with her brother.

  • Honestly, there's nothing about cruising with a toddler that sounds fun to me! Sorry! They're going to be running around, getting in peoples' way, and there's usually stair cases to worry about, little stores to run in, and ughhh. No I wouldn't do it!

  • I would hold off or leave the baby at home.

    No Pool with Swim Diapers

No childcare unless they are potty trained ( on most cruise lines)

Excursions are out b/c of naps.

You'll need adjoining rooms or a balcony if you want to do something OTHER than sit in the dark during nap time.

Plenty of time in life for cruising with an older child.

     Plan a toddler friendly get-a-way!

  • We took our oldest son on a cruise for his first birthday.  It was the most incredible vacation.  We did do a land and sea excursion, which was good.   It got hot on the boat but we just kept our son covered.  On the boat, we let him just crawl around!  everyone knew him by name!  He was so well behaved in all the restaurants.  People would come over and tell us how wonderful he was.  If he dropped his napkin on the floor, a waitor or waitress would run over to pick it up.  They did so much for him.  Every night we walked the ship with him in his carriage until he fell asleep.  He slept amazing every night!  I would do it again in a heart beat.  They even had a group of staff sing him happy birthday on his birthday and gave him a cake!  We don't feel that we missed out on anything with him.  Oh, and as far as the pool goes on the ship.  We took my son in a couple of times and no one ever said a word to us about it!
  • The only cruise I would consider would be the Disney Cruise.  I went on one before dd and loved it.  They cater to kids so you really can't go wrong.

All of this. We love cruises but definitely don't see ourselves on one as a family until our youngest is potty trained at the earliest.

  • We're going on Disney the end of next month.  He's so into Mickey Mouse I think he'll enjoy the cruise. Castaway Cay is a fun private island. Disney has childcare starting at 4 months.  I wouldn't take DS on a different cruise line at his age.
