No sweets, whole grains, skim milk. It's not that it's difficult to follow for me, it's the planning that it takes. And stabbing myself in the finger four times a day sort of sucks too.
Biggest thing was probably cutting out "liquid sugar/calories"-no more juice, pop, etc. I still drink milk and my morning 1/2 caf latte. I've also cut back on the bread/bagels. For the most part, though, I eat similar to how I used to, but smaller portions of the carbs, and try to substitute more veggies and protein.

Switched to diet soda, no sweets except an occsional splurge.
Mostly for me it's making sure you get the right ratio carbs, protein, etc at each meal and snack.
