Best Point & Shoot Camera?

We need to buy a new p&s for when the baby arrives... the one we have leaves everything (especially any movement) blurry.

Can you recommend a good p&s?  Thanks!

  • I'd look into the newer models of the Panasonic Lumix and the Canon Powershot Elphs.  If you go on Amazon you can find good prices and they have a lot of reviews.

If you want a small point and shoot I would go with a Canon (I think it is the elf series but I could be wrong) - they take pretty good pictures.

But, for just a few hundred more dollars (maybe $200-300 more) you would go with a DSLR - in that case I would go with Nikon as I am a big fan of Nikon when it comes to more sophisticated camera (Canon DSLRs feel cheap to me).

  • I have a Canon PowerShot.  I love it as a p&s, though I can't wait to upgrade.
  • I have a Canon Powershot Elph SD780. I absolutely love it. You can do pure and simple point and shoot, or you can play with the cool settings it gives you (like doing a b&w photo but only showing one color through the photo). I have a SLR camera as well, but this is what I drag everywhere since it fits in my purse or pocket so well. And I think now they are a little less than $200.
  • I was using a Kodak Easy Share that I got in 2004 until Christmas when we got out Nikon Coolpix S570. No I didn't know the model number off the top of my head, :D it was sitting on the coffee table. It's great, we get a lot of squirrels and chipmunks in our back yard and it takes great pictures even when they're running around. I also have a lot of pictures of our cat mid meow, so she looks like she's going to eat our faces off. The color is really nice as well, the only problem I've had was in our nursery where it thinks the green is more yellowy or a slightly different shade, but that only occurs at certain angles and depends on the sunlight coming in. We really love this camera, some of our friends had different models and they were all at our wedding last summer so we got to see how well they worked, so that's why we chose this one.

    And it was really affordable!

  • I LOVE my Canon Elph SD1200.

My sister is a photographer and that's her pick for the camera she keeps in her purse for "just in case," etc..

The picture quality is great, it's easy to use, small and compact, and I like that you can switch to B&W.

  • We love our Casio Exilim. High zoom, great quality shots.
  • We have a Canon Powershot XS200. It is a step up from a point and shoot but not to complicated. I shoot in kids mode a lot and pictures never come out blurry.
