cvs and nuchal translucency screening

These items are on my pregnancy checklist, but I was wondering if I have to call and schedule these or if my OB will tell me when and if I need these tests done.

Did you have these done? What are these tests like and what can I expect from them?

The NT scan is an u/s where they measure the thickness of the back of the baby's neck and its combined with a blood test they do then and then another one a few weeks later to come up with a statistic. I did it with Alexis and I would definitely do it again. I'm surprised your OB didn't mention it at your first appt so I would call and ask b/c it needs to be done between weeks 11-13.

The CVS you would only do if you have certain risk factors or if something on the NT scan is questionable. It's more invasive but more conclusive also. I don't think (based on what I know of you) that you need to do that.

He didn't mention it, but at my next appointment I'll be almost 11 weeks so he'll probably mention it then or maybe it's a routine thing at this practice???

He'll give you the information at your next appt. it has to be done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days. I recommend scheduling it for the the middle of your 12th week of after because at 11.5 weeks this kids was bouncing off the walls and we had to go back for a repeat the following week. If your co-pay isn't much and you don't mind paying it twice than schedule it whenever. We defintiely did not mind paying the $15 to see the baby. Lol.

We didn't do a CVS just the NT or as they will call it "First Trimester Sequential Scan" I'm sure you signed a paper about it when you went in for the first time.

You won't do the NT scan at Dr. K's you'll do it @ South Florida Perinatal which is actually in the 8950 building @ Baptist. You'll also do your 2nd Tri-mester Anatomy scan there and the spine ibifida blood work.

Ditto what the other ladies said. I do know that some doctors do not routinely send their patients for these tests, so that may be the reason you have not heard about it. I have some friends that even after multiple babies, had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned I was doing an NT scan
