Babies on the Brain

Anyone try Nutrisystem?

'Cause I found this.

And I am STRONGLY considering trying it for a month to see if I can deal with it.

Re: Anyone try Nutrisystem?

  • I have no personal experience.  My friend tried it and she didn't like most of the food and didn't lose any weight.

  • I have an unpopular opinion about those types of weight loss plans.

  • Not nutrisystem, but I recommend weight watchers.  You eat fresh real food you prepare yourself.  You don't rely on food that is pre-packaged.

::points at ticker:: and it works.  That's since January.

  • Blair has been on it for a month now I think (and is currently taking a break because she hit a plateau).

I believe she got back down to pre-pregnancy weight in that month.

  • *sigh*

I was kinda looking for something brainless for a month or so. LOL.

  • A guy friend of mine had a lot of success last year when he tried it.  I think he gained a lot or most of it back when he quit, but I don't think he continued to exercise or eat healthy either.

  • it has always hit me as pricey - considering that you still need to buy all of your fresh foods on top of it - and my DH would need something to eat, so I feel like I would still have to meal plan and cook.

  • I tried it and first was very motivated by it.  I loved that all the meals were ready for me which made life convenient.  However you have to buy all your fruits and veggies and still do a certain amount of preparation.  It also left me feeling like I could never go out on the weekend, although they do have a 5-day a week plan.  The food makes your stomach churn i.e. has LOTS of fiber!  I did lose a little weight, but I couldn't stay on it long enough to be truly successful because I felt deprived and got sick of eating reconstituted food out of a box.  Also, DH would cook his normal meals in the evening because he was not on NS and it was depressing to watch him eat his GOOD food and not get to eat any.  Overall, not a good option for myself, being that I'm a big "foodie."

  • I tried it while DH was overseas.  The food was not great, not bad then but I guess they have changed the foods now and they taste better.  It is a different flavor, especially the chocolate, but not in a bad way.

I only lost 10lbs total, but I wasn't being strict on the diet,or following thier rules to a T.  My BFF did this, and followed the diet exactly- she lost over 25lbs in a few months.  It can be a big sucess if you do it correctly.

It is a big expense.  You pay for the food and youalso have to eat fresh foods which are not within the packaged meals, so it's more $ on top of what you already pay.  Just keep that in mind if your budget is tight.

A good chunk of the people who use nutrisystem, jenny craig etc do put their weight back on (hello Kirstie Alley?!) because they're eating pre-prepared food.  Then when they stop, they don't know how to continue on their own in a healthy way and go back to the easy unhealthy habits that got them there in the first place.

  • I've heard nothing but bad things about it.  The only person I have seen who likes it is Blair.

  • I'm a big fan of low-GI eating, so Nutrisystem is what I'd do if I were to hop on an official-diet bandwagon. It'll take some effort, and if you don't alter your post-Nutrisystem eating by eating low-GI foods, you'll likely regain what you lost. The bit of work would be worth it, though.
  • I did it YEARS ago. Back when they actually ahd the stores and you attended classes etc. It was 20 years ago.( God I'm old). I was a teenager. I did it for one summer and it worked great...but I slowly gained it all back and then some over the next 20 years and here I am.

Which is why it's good that you prepare your own fruit/veggie portions. It's more of a hand-holder than anything. It's just as easy to eat the same amount of pre-prepared foods on WW and learn nothing about nutrition.

I agree. Just like any weightloss diet or program you have to change the way you eat afterwards too. They have books and aids to help you slowly changed over. The prepared foods are supposed to help you kick start and manage proportions etc. but you have to learn how to do it on your own, not just quit and go back to your old habits.

As with WW (who also has prepared foods and participating companies (soup etc with points listed) to make it easy, when you DO cook etc, you ahve to be concious of what you are eating.

People are the issue and our way of thinking. Anything can work for SOME people but Not ALL people because of our habits and the way we think/live/view ourselves.

  • See, the thing is that I don't really eat too much.  But I am not always conscious of the choices I make in the foods I DO choose to eat.  And I'm a naturally lazy person.  So I have no idea what I can really do to get on track besides get my lazy arse to the gym.

I did really well on SBD, but it's just NMS to constantly have to prepare meals.  I like ease.
