Baby Shower Theme Q..

I know a lot of people ask in their shower invitations for guests to bring books instead of cards- is there another cute idea like this?  The last 3 baby showers I have been to, they have asked to bring a book and we wanted to be more creative without asking guests to spend a lot more money...I have seen a request for diapers and then the guests who bring them get their names put into a raffle- this could work.  Any other ideas out there??

    To be perfectly honest I don't like the invitations asking for additional gifts. From the boards it sounds like a lot of people do it. However I have never gone to one where you were asked to bring a box of diapers or a book instead of a card. I just think it is asking a lot of people in a time when most people are on a tight budget. Sorry. If you look on the Baby Shower board I know they have lots of suggestions already posted.

    Nothing as far as having people bring items to the shower, but at the actual shower, instead of a guest book, or having people sign something, we are having people fill out advice/wish cards for us and the baby which I will be eventually putting into a nice album. My mom did this for me when I graduated high school, and some of the advice/wishes were really great, others were super funny, and most were just really sweet and thoughtful. I loved looking back to see what people wrote. We are also mailing the cards to some older relatives that live further away/ won't be able to travel for the shower or after the birth, so we can include them as well. Plus my mom plans on writing what people got us on the back of the cards for thank you's later on.
