Stroller without infant seat?

When can we use the stroller without the infant seat?  Does Caroline have to be able to sit up unassisted?

I want to start taking her to the mall and walking on the days when the weather won't let us get outside...but she seems sooooo bored only being able to look at me.  I'd love for her to be able to see the world going by...but I'm afraid she is still too little to sit in the stroller without the infant seat.

Thoughts?

    Our stroller has good straps that tighten down really well and we first put Megan in the big girl stroller right around 3 months.  She LOVED it!  She definitely wasn't sitting on her own.

    She doesn't need to be able to sit alone. I'd say we did this around 4 months. You'll be able to tell if she is comfortable in there.

    I started going for walks with them just sitting in the stroller when they could hold their heads up.  The stroller had a 5 point harness so I felt secure (and they were) that they would be able to sit there okay.  I also reclined it just a bit.

    We put N in the stroller without the seat all the time......we started doing it about a month ago.

     What I do is I recline the seat and then I put the "foot rest" part up (so it kind of encloses him in....). We have the Chicco Cortina so I don't know if others have the foot rest part. This helps b/c then he can't slide down. I strap him in and put blankets around him!
