Babies: 0 - 3 Months

car seat/travel system/advice please?

Hi, I will be joining you in about 3 weeks and today we finally went car seat shopping....it is all so confusing.  I have read a ton of reviews and ratings info and thought that once I had seen them in the store it would be easier, I was wrong.

So I thought I would ask those of you with experience, that are currently using infant car seats with or without the whole travel system to see

What did you buy?

Are you happy with your decision or do you wish you had gone with a different product?

Thank you so much for your help and congratulations on all the new babies ;)

  • We have the chicco keyfit with the cortina stroller and love it! The only negative is that the stroller is a little bulky when collapsed but it's not a big deal.

  • We have the Graco Snugride in a travel system. I really really love the infant carseat, but I could do without the stroller. It's big and heavy. I'm glad we got a GREAT deal on it.

  • We got the graco snugride :) In green :)
  • I have a greco snugride carseat with the travel system.  The car seat is nice except I don't like how you go about tightening or losening the straps.  I don't think I would have minded except that I saw a friends carseat (can't think of what it was) that had a much easier method with a single strap on the front of the carseat rather than individual straps on the back as the snugride has.  I like the travel system, except it is hard to get into my trunk and when I do it takes up the entire thing.

  • We have a Snugride with a travel system. I would recommend a lighter weight stroller that accepts carseat such as the Snap-N-Go or MetroLite if getting a Graco product.

I also really like the Chicco seats. I used one while we were on vacation last year with DD#1 (we vacationed with family and their little girl had just outgrown the seat, so we didn't take ours on the flight).

  • A word of caution about the Chicco.   A bunch of moms in my mom's group have the same car seat and they love it except when they needed a double stroller.  Apparently it isn't compatible with a lot of the double strollers that are out there.  It really limited their choices.

If you aren't planning to have another LO in the future then this isn't a problem.

  • I have a Graco Snug Ride with a LiteRider stroller.  The stroller is under 20 pounds and fits easily in the trunk of a Honda Civic.

  • I have the Graco Snugride 32 car seat, and I don't know if I would recommend it or not.  First of all, it's pretty heavy.  I don't really carry DD around in it, though.  My biggest issue is that DD cries at some point nearly every time she's in the car seat, but she doesn't in the Brittax Marathon DH has, which I'm just taking to mean that she's uncomfortable in it.  I have the Bugaboo Frog stroller, which I love and use all the time.  I got the car seat adapter, but have never used it.  Good luck in the next few weeks!
  • We have the Graco Snugride and LO hates it. We wear him in a sling when we're out and about, so don't use the seat to transport him in (he'd just scream anyway). We just bought a Britax Marathon, just waiting for it to be delivered. The sample one at Target seemed much more comfortable, and when we put LO in it, he actually smiled. Too bad they had none in stock.

  • We have the snugride 32 and the graco metrolite stroller.  It's not a travel system sold together but the car seat locks into the stroller.  We like it, sure the car seat is a little bulky but we don't carry it much.  The stroller is less than 18 lbs and handles really well, I love it, it folds up nicely as well.

Oh and it's really pretty too, we got the Rittenhouse pattern. I just wish the cup holders were bigger.

  • I am intrigued by your observation!  Smile  How many times has your DD been in the Brittax?  I have the Graco Snugride and my DD cries the majority of the time she is in it.  I wonder if she's uncomfortable too.  I have the Bugaboo Bee and the car seat adapter.  The car seat adapter is easy to use, but breaking my stroller down is a pain.  I think I need to watch the video again!

  • thanks so much for all the replies!!
