This slave thing is tearing me up

The fact that Emmitt Smith can research horses in more detail than he can his family is just wrong.  I had NO idea that slaves were bred just like people breed horses or dogs.  I knew I was ignorant about a lot of things, but that one, I really had NO idea about.  I'm no where near the South, so I had no idea that those kinds of things went on.

We sure have come a long way.

  • What was this on?  I missed something!  I remember learning that in history classes (I was an Elementary Ed and History major) but sadly never really thought about it enough to realize what it really meant.  When it is worded this way it really is devestating that humans could do that to each other.

I'm on the WC, and it's on a show called Who Do You Think You Are?  It's really interesting.

  • Say what-huh-huh? Do you have a link?

The South has come a long way but, sadly, not as far as it should.

  • Nevermind. Took me too long to post my reply.

  • So true about the south not coming far enough.  I lived outside Nashville for 1.5 years and could not believe how racist it still was...I am not saying the NE is perfect but I am so happy to be back to my culturally diverse NJ.

  • Y'all do know that most Southerns don't know that blacks were bred like animals either. Just wanted to make sure y'all know that we don't 'pass along' the how-tos anymore.

Oh, there's still plenty of racism passed down. But that's the ignorant "I hate blacks (or Jews, Catholics, insert group here) because my mama and daddy do"

My parents aren't racist and so I believe that's what has made me not racist too. (knowledge is power). Not saying someone could be not racist and have racist parents, but the likelihood isn't good.

And I have seen racism in all parts of the USA- even NJ (in-laws are there, they aren't the racist ones but that's why I've spent time there).

What's your take on those kids from NJ (Adolf Hitler Campbell and his sisters, JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell)? I wonder if its like down here where certain parts are more 'backwards' than others? Is the place where these people are from (Holland) known as being backwards or 'rednecky'?
