Re: how did our mothers do it--re rainy day survival

  • I know, I would go nuts without indoor (but no in the house!) stuff to do!  DH is working from home today after being gone all week, so we're heading to an indoor gym for open play this afternoon and going to our favorite organic burger place after for dinner.  Yay!  :-)

  • Indoor playground AND the internet!! I have gotten so many ideas online and I don't know what I would have done without them. I am not creative enough to think of so many fun activities.

We haven't really done the indoor playground yet, but the Internet I completely agree on. There are so many things out there that have educated me and helped me. I love that it is at my fingertips, and I don't have to go to the library or find other ways to research things. Sometimes I can be creative, but most of the time I need at least a catalyst to get the ideas flowing.

  • But I also think everyone (moms and kids) were much more easily entertained back then...the good ol days ;)

Indoor playgrounds and the internet have made us NEED indoor playgrounds and the internet and more.  It is a vicious cycle.

I remember spending a lot of time being bored. And staring at the test pattern on PBS while I waited for Sesame Street to start. (Wow, I'm old.)

  • OMG!  my mom had 4 under 4.  God Bless that woman!
  • We had a playdate today, and it's been fun......no real issues.......but this is the EXCEPTION to the rule. Typically, we all go stir crazy in the house! LOL!

I'll tell you how my mom did it - she just plopped us in front of the TV.......

  • Oh, and I HATE indoor play areas. They are way too crowded during the rainy, etc. weather and too many kids pushing and shoving......

  • I secretly wonder if this was part of my parents' motivation for raising us in sunny San DIego.

  • We don't have any indoor playgrounds around us.  We do the library and playdates on rainy days, but if it's warm enough we go outside in the rain.  DD LOVES splashing in puddles.

Totally agree!  I often wonder how our moms did a ton of different things and we all turned out ok....  things are so complex these days.  Information is good and helps be healthier and smarter and all of those things but its exhausting...

  • LOL. Surviving rainy days is still easy around these parts.

However, I totally remembering my mother swapping me out for the neighbor's kid on rainy days.

I'd go to the neighbor's house to help do whatever, and the neighbor girl would come to mine. Each of us was on our best behavior for the other's mom. Worked like a charm every time.

  • I'm from Seattle, so we had/have a lot of rainy days...poor Mom. Of course here we totally would still go out on a normal rainy day, even play outside at the wet parks...it's all about the degree of 'raininess'. :D
