Labeling bottles?

What is a good way to temporarily label bottles? I was hoping there would be a way I could label them with dates...would a regular marker wipe off? I was thinking dry erase, but don't have any (tons at school!). I head back to work next Thursday and am trying to figure out how I'm going to keep the bottles straight. My plan is to pump 3x at work and use this for daycare the next day. In the beginning I'm going to send 4 bottles though since sometimes she's still eating every 2 hours and while she probably won't need all four, I don't want to risk it.

So, if she only uses three bottles on one day and has the fourth left over for the second day, when I drop off the new, I want to make sure the provider gives the oldest first. Or, if I pull one out of the freezer that needs to be used within 24 hours.

Any ideas or am I trying to plan this out all too well? Please feel free to tell me if I'm worrying about something that I really shouldn't be :) I'm completely dreading next week as it is, let alone wondering how to keep the bottles straight until I know exactly how many she needs!

Re: Labeling bottles?

  • Honestly - even the Sharpie I used came off pretty easily. If you had some rubbing alcohol, it'd probably come right off.  I finally gave up on trying to keep Jack's name on them and got these. If you're so inclined, maybe you could use two different colors.

  • The link took me to an article about twins - although interesting! Are the bands what you were referring to? Thought about these but didn't know if others had any ideas.

Guess I can just do the sharpie if it comes off that easily. Might invest in the bands down the road though.

  • I just marked the lids with a 1,2,3,etc...  That way the daycare knew which to use first, and it helped me keep track also.  If one was left over, I would wash the number 1 lid and switch it to the oldest bottle for the next day.

  • Ya, the bands. They actually help hold onto the bottle a little too so it's not all slick and smooth.
  • I used the label bands as well .. I think they are called "bumpy name orbit labels." I got mine off of inchbug.com. They are fabulous. Used them for bottles and now sippy and straw cups.
  • Megan - Does the daycare require you to bring prepared bottles? I know some providers do.  I ask because I store what I pump at each session in a lansinoh milk bag and then send them (and empty bottles) over to daycare with Jack.  I was prepared to send bottles too but when I visited the week before he started his teacher was warming another BF baby's bottle and she had the bags.  I asked about it and she said she much preferred the bags because they warmed faster for her than a bottle.  This could help eliminate the date tracking issue.

Good luck with returning back to work.  I know how stressful it can be.

  • Jen, thanks for bringing that up! I actually never thought about giving her the bags. We go again Tuesday to visit, so I'll see what she prefers to do. I just assumed I would take ready to go bottles.

And yup, definitely not looking forward to this. At least its on a Thursday though so I only have two days to make it through.

  • Glad I could help.  I hope they're ok with the bags for you.  It has made things a lot easier for us.

I went back on a Wednesday and it definitely helped to go back halfway through the week.  I'll be thinking about you. :)
