Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Tips on losing weight while pregnant?

I know it's been done, so I'm hoping someone out there can help me. This week we found out #2 is on his/her way, and I still have weight to lose from #1. I plan on meeting with a nutrionist once I have my first OB appointment, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything right (and healthy). Any tips on how to lose weight, but make sure I'm getting enough of what I need?

  • I don't think you are supposed to loose weight while you're pregnant. You need the calories so your baby can grow.
  • Huh?

Sorry but you need to be focusing on your LO and not the fact that you still have baby weight from #1. Eat right and gain a recommended amount and you really should be fine.

Eat fruits and veggis instead of crap
  • I'm not sure that's a good idea...just wait 9 months and diet then.

  • I really don't think you can lose weight safely while pregnant. All you can do is eat well and exercise (but don't overdo it or introduce too much new exercise).

This is what I was thinking.  If you are eating healthy and exercise your body will take over.  If it thinks your baby doesn't need the fat it will get rid of it, but if it doesn't it stays on.  Sorry.

  • I would talk to your OB about it first.

My only tips are to eat healthy, eat all your recommended calories a day, and stay fit (walking, swimming, or whatever your OB okays)

A healthy baby is much more important.

    Congrats.

  • Its not healthy to loose weight while your pregnant. No matter how far along you are.

  • A friend of mine wasn't trying to lose weight but had extra weight still on from previous pregnancies.  With her last one she just ate really healthy, lots of fruits and veggies, and the weight came off on it's own. She still had a very healthy pregnancy. She ate as much as she wanted just made sure it was healthy. However, she did crave fruit. Me, I craved cheeseburgers Embarrassed

  • You had two options:

    1. Focus on weight loss, get pg once you're at your goal weight

    or

    2. Put the weight loss on the back burner and get pg

Whether or not the pg was intentional, losing weight will now have to wait.

  • Unless you are significantly obese, no nutritionist or doc is going to advise you to lose weight while pg. Ever.
  • I think this is for sure a doctor question, not a bump question.

I don't think losing weight is a good idea, but when I was diagnosed with GD, they put me on a GD diet to slow the weight down.

  • Not sure that losing weight should be a priority now that you're pregnant, but that's just this girl's opinion....Huh?
  • Why would you need to lose weight WHILE pregnant? I'm at a loss here.

  • Losing weight while pregnant is only advisable if you are significantly obese.  And then only under a doctor's reccomendation and guidance.  The baby needs calories and nutrients.  You can't restrict your diet when you have a growing baby!

You are not supposed to lose weight while pregnant.  The safe way to do it is to suck it up, stay within the recommended range for this pregnancy, then work on losing it after #2 is born.

  • I'd deal with these body issues of yours now before your little girl is old enough to pick them up from you.
  • I would talk to your doc, but I only gained about 11 pounds during my pregnancy since I was overweight...that was what was healthy for me and my baby.  I believe I read you only need to eat about 300 calories extra per day for baby...but like I said, I would talk to your doc!!! I actually weighed less than I did before I was pregnant after I had my DD, so you can "loose weight" but I definately wasn't dieting, just eating right.

  • "I know it's been done"?? So that's your reasoning on why YOU should do it? Unless you are obese and have been given direct orders from your Dr and a nutritionist to specifically lose weight during your pregnancy, then dont even think about trying to lose weight. Try to be healthy (which usually does not include dieting while pregnant Tongue Tied)
