Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

New poster...having a rough day..:O(

I just need someone to talk/vent to, today.

Since having my DD, things have been SO rough (as I'm sure things are for everyone).  I quit my full-time job and took a part-time job that payed way more money...but I only get paid once a month and it's still not as much as I made full time.  Plus, my husband lost his part-time job and is now only working his full-time job...we've taken a huge hit financially.  I feel like our bills are piling up and it's increasingly hard to pay them every month.  We aren't behind or anything, it's just the stress of knowing what needs paid and that after everything is paid, it leaves nothing left for groceries, etc.

Mostly it's the financial situation which puts so much stress on me.  It's also hard because I have few people IRL that I can talk to.  Besides my parents and my husband, I don't really have anyone.

We just left our church that I attended my whole life and consequently lost some of our closest friends as well.  I feel all alone.  When I'm here all day with the baby, I dwell on everything that is wrong in life and I feel like I can't get out of the rut I let myself get into.

Blah.  Just not feeling like the best Mom today.  I know DD can sense when I'm upset and it's not fair to her...:O(

Thanks for listening.

  • I'm sorry. :(  It can be isolating to SAH--on the days you don't work can you find a mom's group in your area?  It would probably help to talk to other moms feeling the same things.

  • I'm sorry. Have you looked into WIC? That might help you with your grocery bills. GL.
  • We all have days like that. I don't have anyone anymore. I try to reach out to friends but no one really responds or they have other friends that they are closer with that take priority. I feel like sometimes I try to hard to make friends and they can tell so they back off. money's ok for us, it's just life in general that changed so much for me. It's hard not to think about it while you're home all day. When I was on maternity leave, I would get engrossed in playing with DD to take my mind off.  Coloring with DD helps too. Just take it one day at a time! hopefully things will change.
  • Thanks, ladies.

Regarding WIC, we still make too much.  We have a TON of school loans and that is where a big chunk of our money goes each month.  I know we have the option to defer our loans, but the thought of all of the interest continuing to build is sickening.  As a last resort, however, that is what we plan to do.

Before we had DD, money was never an issue.  It's just such an adjustment for me.  I feel like I'm completely out of control with our current situation and that bugs me.  I feel silly for even saying this, but we had to cancel our vacation this year due to finances and it makes me sad.  It had to be done and it wouldn't be responsible for us to go, but I feel bad that we won't be taking DD anywhere this year.  It'll be the first time in 15 years for me that we haven't vacationed.

I know there is light at the end of the tunnel and it's just a bad day.  Thanks for letting me vent!

  • I'm sorry to hear that :( I hate that when it rains it pours.  Like previous posters said is there a mom's group you can join? Maybe go for a walk around the neighborhood, if it's nice, sometimes just being outside for a bit does wonders for me.  I hope things get better soon :)

I feel the same way.  I think I try too hard to make friends sometimes.  It's been such an adjustment to lose friendships with people we've known for so long and been so close to.  I think I'll start posting here more often.  Even if you are all far away, at least we're all somewhat in the same boat!  Most of our friends don't have children yet, so that's also a deterent.  We've sort of grown apart in the last year.

Here's the site for MOPS.  I am not a part of this program, but I know there's one here.  I met my mom's group at the BF support group run by my hospital when DS was first born.

  • Just a suggestion: try couponing. It's my new hobby. I got $131 worth of grocery's for $45 on Wednesday. That's a 67% savings. It makes the dollar go a lot farther.  Also I a save TON with coupons on diapers. Let me know if you would like to know more.  Hope that helps! And keep your chin up, it maybe hard but it makes us stronger.

  • 1MusicMake: Thanks!  I am going to look into that for sure!

erin.m: I'd LOVE to know more.  I try to clip coupons, but I'm horrible at remembering to use them.  I usually am good about clipping and using them with diapers/wipes, but as far as anything else goes, not so much.  If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks everyone!  I'm feeling a little better already.  How nice to have some "adult" conversation! :)

  • I know it is very difficult not having any IRL friends.  I just recently found a Moms group that joined and am now starting to meet more moms.  Here's a link to the MOMS Club (an int'l organization) chapters in PA.

Also, try MOPS and Mommy and Me type things.  I know it's hard to find things (it took me a long time to find stuff!!).

Good luck and I hope that things start looking up for y'all soon!

  • This is a good starter.

I'm still pretty new at the coupon "game." I just got really into it in September. I haven't mastered the grocery part yet. Tip #1-get the Sunday Paper, and then save the coupon inserts by date-they will come in VERY handy. I also have my parents save their inserts for me. So I have at least 3 from each week. Also know your stores coupon policies.

Rite Aid is your friend-sign up for their video values program and you'll get lots of RA coups. The trick is you can one "print" them once, so print MANY copies. Also sign up for their single check rebates- you just enter your receipts and they send you one check a month, easy peasy. You can combine the RA coups with manufacturers coups for the same item and ALWAYS do your math before you go and use your $5 off 20 coups every time.

In my opinion: Not a big Walgreens fan-too much work to "work" the coupon system there.

These are my fav sites so far: -they show you the "deals" and where to find the coupons.
    https://www.coupongeek.net/, www.mavenofsavin.com, https://couponsdealsandmore.com/, https://thekrazycouponlady.com/.

    And printable coupons:

    coupons.com, redplum.com, smartsource.com, couponbug.com

    HAPPY SHOPPING! GOOD LUCK!

Also I just added up the rebates I have coming back from Rite Aid alone = $138! Surprise That is going to buy a LOT of diapers! LOL.

  • I know how hard it is with the finances as well. Don't feel bad for feeling bad about a vacation. We wanted to do a long weekend at Sesame Place for DD's 2nd birthday but it would cost $700 just for the park & hotel. Not to mention gas & food so we canceled. We'll do a day trip instead. It sucks but you are being responsible and thats good.

The coupon ideas are great. I went grocery shopping this weekend & saved $50 on a $250 bill. Not as much as PP but it's still a great savings if you use coupons & a member card.

I've lost a lot of friends and we moved from las vegas a few years ago back here to AZ. I have a lot of friends in LV that I'd love to see and actually want to see me, but the 4-5 hour drive makes it tough. That's a big reason I've come back to the msg board...
