PSA: Poison Control Number

So this morning- while I turned my head for two seconds- DD managed to get hold of a bottle of Zantac (acid reflux medicine), get the child proof top off, throw pills all over the bathroom and possibly swallow one or two.I immediately called the pediatrician and they transferred me to Poison Control for what to do.

The Poison Control number is 1-800-222-1222 and I advise everyone to put it in your phone :-) The nicest, nicest woman explained that the worst side effect would be an upset stomach and she has already called back this morning to follow-up. And, she told me that this happens ALL the time.

  • this happens to be one of the most important things DH and I learned in our Baby Care class last week.  I remember having those neon green yuck stickers on the phone growing up.

  • Thank you, I hope your DD is OK.  I just added the number to my cell.
  • Thanks for the tip! I put it in my phone, too. I hope your DD ends up ok!
  • she is perfectly fine! honestly I don't know if she even got one of the little pills in her mouth and since she has not had any upset stomach I think all is well.

  • Glad to hear your DD is OK. I too have the ph# in my cell phone. It's amazing what the babies can accomplish at such a young age!
  • I had to call a couple weeks ago, after DD decided to eat some diaper cream!  (apparently, it's a choking hazard... who knew?)

  • I heart poison control.  Seriously.  When I worked as an ER nurse, we would call poison control after we received a patient that had overdosed on something (or that warranted poison control - this was policy).  They are a wealth of info, they would call us and follow up in like an hour or two, and they would guide us in weird instances. They were always really courteous too.

I decided after that work experience, I wouldn't mind working for poison control one day!

  • Thanks for posting that.

We dealt with poison control last month when our CO detector went off.  They were great!

A good reminder to keep their number handy.

    Glad your DD is okay!
