3rd Trimester

Anyone else NOT want to go early?

I mean, I'm sure by 37-38w, I'll wish I was done, but I really don't want to go into labor before my due date. First off, the last couple weeks of my pregnancy will be finals time here (I work for a university). Our department gets so busy during that time, I'd hate to leave them with a temp just before/during finals.

Second, I only get 4 paid weeks maternity leave- then I have to use sick and vacation time. If I have the baby on/after my due date, I'll still be out when the new fiscal year begins and will have more vacation time which means more paid time off.

So, I'm hoping for a 40w baby, lol. Anyone else? Why?

Re: Anyone else NOT want to go early?

  • At the present time I do NOT want to go early. I we JUST moved into our new place this past weekend and I would really prefer to have everything in order and some relaxation time before he comes. This month is going to be insane...I have so much going on I want a few weekends of downtime before he makes his appearance.

  • not me... i could go any time after 37 weeks and i'd be happy!

  • I don't want to go early because I want my maternity leave as far into summer as possible.  The earlier I go, the earlier I have to come back o work.
  • I have totally mixed feelings....

I'm 37w and ready to have my baby here, but I teach 1st grade and we have all of our assessments starting in a week.  I really want to be there when my kids take their writing and reading assessments.

  • You read my mind with this post. I don't want to have my baby before my EDD. It sounds silly but I want my baby to be born in May and his EDD is May 3rd.
  • I don't want to go early.  I feel there is a reason pregnancy is 40 weeks long. I want LO to be as healthy and ready as possible. I'll wait, besides, I like being pregnant.
  • I'm hoping for 40 weeks cause I'm just scared, lol.
  • I'm in the same boat. Im at 38 weeks and I feel pretty good. I can make it 2 more weeks. I get 6 paid weeks so the later  he arrives, the later into the school year I can stay out of work. I dont want to have to go back for May and June so hopefully he stays to term which I think hes going to! You may be surprised at 37-38 weeks by how you feel...i really can't complain that much. the worst is everyone else saying "youre still working"? yes! if i were home i'd be bored out of my mind! good luck to you and hopefully your little one stays in till the end!
  • I want as much time as possible with DS so I'm perfectly happy to go to 40w and fully expect to go later bc I did with DS...I'm feeling the mommy guilt about adding another

  • I'm praying for either a due date or late delivery.  There's just not enough time to get everything done and I'm scared to death she'll decide to come early.
  • As much as I say now that I hope to not be induced, I know I will be - in some form or another.  If I am not, I know I will have a 10 pound child.  I would prefer to go early, than have a c/s due to size.
  • I was the exactly same way.  Starting last week I starting to change my tune just because it got more uncomfortable, but it seems she listened.

I've accepted the fact that she will pretty much be on time on late, which is what I wanted.  Mine was also because of timing with work.  If she comes on time I will get one free week of leave because it is Spring Break.

  • I'm pretty bored with pregnancy at this point, but I'd rather him not appear until closer to 40w. I just want him to be as strong and fully cooked as possible, even though I know I am full-term now.

Physically I feel fine. So I have no problem going another 2 weeks.

  • I'm really praying that I go to my due date. (May 23rd) DH and I still have so many renovations to do on the house, and we haven't started on LO's room yet because we are refinishing the hardwood floors next month.

Also, I'd like ample time to buy everything that is on my registry that I don't get from my shower on the 10th of April. I used to feel like 40 weeks is too long, now I don't feel like I have enough time!

  • i don't want to have this little guy early - my car seat wont be delivered until a week before he is due (if he happens to come early we do have a backup plan). I am enjoying being pregnant. I only have a few minor complaints - but even still - nothing really unbearable.

  • At almost 32 weeks I really want the baby out now for comfort reasons but for time reasons, I don't.  I'm so busy at work and need to catch up and train the girl who will be covering for me.  Plus we still need to buy some things and get the room set up so I'm really not ready.
  • I'm hoping to go about a week late.  That will allow me to use maternity leave through the end of the school year.  If I deliver on time or early, I'll have to go back the last week or so of school. Who wants to spend the last week of the year with middle school kids!?!?
  • I just don't want to go overdue again. One, because it might mean I'd be in the hospital over Easter, and two, because it's incredibly discouraging to see your due date come and go, as arbitrary as it is.

  • I want to go when the baby deems he/she is ready to come....if that is now, at 37 weeks or at 42 weeks I could care less when.
  • I'm having a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks 2 days, but that makes up for having DD at 40 weeks 6 days.

  • I do not. I'm in grad school, so the longer I can go, the more school work I can get done.
  • For the past month or so, I've been wishing that I would go LATE.  I wasn't ready for baby to be here! (I'm still not)

BUT.  After feeling completely miserable after this past week, I'm ready for the baby to be here.  Tonight.

  • Im crazy and wouldnt even mind going late..... I have a project at work that I really want to be there for to make sure it goes well and I dont have to clean it up while im home with baby..... and I dont really want my baby before or on easter because I dont want his first easter to be when he is a couple days old.... SO im hoping for no earlier then the day before his EDD..... We shall see... my mom says because I want to go on time or late, ill probably go early!!

  • I DO NOT want to go early either.  I am due May 14th.  I am florist and our busiest holiday is the week leading up to Mother's Day, May 9th.  I really, really need to work that holiday.  I don't mind if she comes May 10th or later but would really like to be here for the holiday.  I know I won't be much help being big and tired but at least I could sit here and answer the phone/take orders.
  • I don't! I am scheduled for a repeat c-section at 39 weeks.  If I go a week earlier I will miss DD's first dance recital which would break my heart!
  • I do not want to go early. I actually wouldn't mind being a week or so late. My husband is currently away for military training and has been gone my entire pregnancy. I'm due the 19th of April and he will be done training at the end of May. So, the longer this little girl can wait to show her beautiful face, to me, the better!
  • Ditto this. I was hoping for two weeks late (of course I might change my mind when I get closer and more uncomfortable), but for now that would mean I would have the month of May to get used to LO while my 12 yr old is still in school, and then the next 2 months of summer to do as we please.  (I'm taking off work for 12 wks total).

This is me too! Everyone thinks I'm nuts, but I really want a May baby. LO is due May 4, so I'm crossing my fingers!

  • I am also hoping for a 40 week baby.  My due date is May 7th and my husband's leave starts May 4th.  Add travel time from Iraq to Cincinnati and if this baby comes even a day early he may not be here for it.  To keep that from happening I am going to lay in bed from 36 weeks on with my legs crossed and only move to pee.   (Just kidding...sort of)

Completely agree!! Though I don't want to do too late. My sisters are coming into town a week after I am due, and would rather it be to see the little guy :)

  • I don't b/c the later I go the further into spring I'll be for my maternity leave and also b/c we have a ton of niece/nephew b'days in the month of March that I want to avoid. Tomorrow is the last of the bdays so if I can make it to Monday I'll be happy (my due date is a week from today, the 18th)

  • I don't.  If I don't take a work trip at 37 wks then I have to do it before LO is 5 mo old.  I'd rather get it out of the way before Lo comes so I don't have to leave an infant :(  The fact that I'm so set on this makes me think I'll go early though.  Isn't that usually how it works?

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • At almost 37 weeks, I still DO NOT want to do into labor early. But I can say at times I am tired of being pregnant. It has really worn me down. Of course I had a sinus cold last week, I am now on antibiotics, so I am not feeling so bad. But the pains and hard rolls and peeing all hours of the night do take a toll. I have actually taken the "sleep now" advice. I am going to bed around 8:30/9 as opposed to 10. The extra half hour is actually incredibly worth it to me in the morning since I wake up every 2 hours to pee.

I am hoping for a 40 w baby because I would love to prove everyone wrong (they all think I am going early). Plus her EDD is Easter Sunday.
