I went to my doctor's appointment yesterday and advised the doctor that I feel like the baby has begun to drop and have been feeling some pressure down there...he very nonchalantly said that if I were to go into labor from this point on they would not stop it...this response really surprised me and caught me off guard. For those of you who had your LO's prior to 38-39 weeks....Did your baby come home from the hospital with you? I'm so nervous about having to leave little one behind (hospital is about 45 minutes away)
Re: Those who gave birth before 39 weeks....
They generally won't stop labor after 34 or 35 weeks. Technically 37 weeks is term though. If you give birth prior to 37 weeks, your baby may need some NICU time for immature lungs, etc.
I would think as long as you deliver after 37 weeks, your baby should be able to come home with you no problem. Every situation is different though.
FYI, I had extreme pelvic pressure from about 33 weeks on and delivered at 38w3d and my DD was 6lb11oz and came home with me.
I went into PTL at 34 weeks & they stopped it w/meds until 36 weeks because I had a boy. Boys have a harder time being preemies than girls.
If you have a girl, she would most likely go home with you, depending on her lung development/jaundice.
If you have a boy prior to 38 weeks, there is a much higher chance he'd have to stay for a bit. Boys lungs develop later.
I had DS at 38 weeks exactly and he was perfect!
My advice to you would be to TAKE IT EASY! You do not want a pre-term baby. Every hour, day, week gives your LO so much more!!! Don't walk too much or stay on your feet too much. Take naps, drink LOTS of water, and rest!!
My sister & I were also Preemies!!
I was born at 32 weeks, my sister at 35 weeks. We both stayed in the NICU until our due dates as well.
My DS was born at 38 weeks
He was 8lbs & perfect!
My water broke at exactly 37 weeks, and LO was 6lb 11oz, completely healthy and went home with me a day later!
I went into labor with LO at 37wks exactly which was Monday, February 1st. On Wednesday February 3, I went in for a c-section after 30 hours of labor which would not progress. That Friday, I was discharged from the hospital with my LO and he came home with us
I was freaking out when they told me that they weren't discharging me after I went in on Monday (I was bleeding due to a placental abruption) because I was having contractions. He didn't need to be in NICU and was brought to me in the postpartum room after he was cleaned up and weighed, which his father stayed with him throughout .
