Baby Names

Freakonomics named our baby girl

Okay, not really.

We had all but decided on "Adair" for our LO. I've been wavering recently, just because that's what I do and I know it's a big deal to name a person. Yesterday, I was in the mall and ducked into Walden's to glance at the baby names chapter of Freakonomics - my dad has my copy and I haven't read it in a couple of years.

I flipped to the "Girl names that most signify highly educated parents"

4. Adair

I'm taking it as a sign (a silly one, I know) and feel good about our choice!  Big Smile

  • Oona Chapman comes to mind on your "yikes"...she was Charlie Chaplin's wife and Eugene O'Neill's daughter.

Not a fan of any names on this list.

  • Oops, the comments (yikes) on there were from where I C+P the list from another message board. I would have yikes-ed more than one!

  • My husband just read it.  We found out that our #1 girl's name choice has the potential to become one of the most popular names in 2015.  I am very anti-popular names, so this made me sad.

  • Adair is really pretty.  It's not my usual style, but I like it.

My name, Aviva, is on the list.  More interestingly, the authors said Aviva would be one of the popular names in 2015.  It still has yet to break the top 1000 on the SS name list.

From the list I really like Lucienne, Phillipa, Linden and Eleanora.  I *love* Clementine, but don't have the guts to actually use it.

  • I love Adair.
  • Love Adair! I baby sat a little girl in high school whose name was Adair-Hayes. Something about it just flows nicely
  • Adair is a very nice name.  Those others are way out there.

Phillippa has always been one of my favorites for a girl. And I love Beatrice but not Beatrix.

  • i dislike nearly every name on that list.
  • I love Adair! I've never heard of it! I loved Adelle but it rhymes with my last name, I feel like this is a great alternative. I'm totally putting this on my future girls list. We chose Ainsley for our girl, so Adair could be cute with it!

This is exactly what I thought of when I heard Adair!! The actress that played her is so pretty (not the movie one, but the tv series one).

ahhh I like this list (not a fan of all the names per se). I haven't read the book but based on the way people made the book sound, I just assumed there wouldn't be any unique names.

  • I was considering Marie-Claire at one point but didn't like the association with the magazine.  Glynnis is... different. Surprised I've never seen that one on this board before.

Yes, it is.  Were you trying to prove a point?

  • Ha! I think it is funny that several of those names would be characterized as you-neek or made-up, all while the posters shriek--"You need to read Freakonomics!"
