Sunscreen ?

We are very fortunate to have some of DH's family nearby (i.e. uncle and grandfather right across the street!) We went by for some coffee this afternoon and sat out on the deck... after 5 minutes out there I was getting really nervous that DD was in the sun, and no shade around, so we went back inside. I've read that you shouldn't put sunscreen on a baby until 6 months (and I'd say we're close enough for that). What kind do you use? How often do you apply for baby? Do you use a face stick? All sounds dumb coming from a freckle-faced Irish chick who needs to bath in sunblock to not become a lobster, but just wondering!

Re: Sunscreen ?

  • my son was only 4 months at the start of last summer.  I asked my pedi and he said a sunburn is much more dangerous than the chemicals in the lotion.  california baby is a very popular company, it's expensive though.  I just got a bottle of baby coppertone and it was fine.  i didn't use a ton of it , i still tried to limit exposure and he wore a hat a lot.

i just applied it to his face with my fingers really carefully.  nowhere near the eyes at all.   we were never out long enough to need to re-apply but I would if we were out for the whole day.

  • Here is a good article on sunblock, also Nuetrogena (sp) makes a baby one. I use the waterbabies one for my son.
