Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Tummy Time = Major FAIL

DS hates tummy time with a passion. I had hoped he'd get used to it but we are over 3 mths and he's still not having it. Hes very strong and loves to have us help him walk and to sit in his walker. All of the babies we know around his age are rolling over and I'm sure he would be if he'd actually have a productive tummy time instead of screaming. Anyone else encounter this? Thoughts and suggestions are welcome please!!! TIA!

  • DS hated tummy time too.  One day he figured out he could roll over and be off his belly and that's what he's done ever since.  Now if I put him on his belly he doesn't scream...he just rolls when he gets sick of it.  Sorry, that probably doesn't help...

  • Mason still barely rolls. The norm is 6 months, you'll be okay.

Those 3 month stats are from when most babies slept on their tummies. As long as your pedi doesnt have an issue with it your fine.

  • DS was just like this and hated tummy time. He wouldn't do it for more than a minute or two at a time until he got frustrated and screamed. He is very strong and hitting all the milestones at the right times. He rolled over both ways (back to front and front to back) around the 4 month mark. Don't worry, I am sure he is fine if your pedi hasn't said anything.

  • My DD hated it at first too.  She's gotten much better with tummy time now that she knows how to go from her back to her tummy and back over again.  I can't keep her from rolling.  She didn't roll until she was about 4 months, so give your LO time.
  • My daughter is almost 5 months and can't roll over.  She can roll to her side but not completely over.  She was also completely against tummy time but can now last a bout 3-5 minutes until the tears start.  That's a huge improvement.

This was Katie lifting her head up for the first time just 2 days ago.

  • My DS isn't a huge fan of TT either. He spits up a lot though and I think it hurts his tummy, so I usually wait about 2 hours after he eats.
  • DS was that way too.  Then one day at about 4 months he suddenly loved it!

  • DD hated tummy time until about 2 weeks ago(well after 3 months). I make sure that she can see me and I lay alot of toys on the ground for her to grab at.
  • Lanie has a love hate relationship with it.  And she is not rolling over yet.  AND I haven't even attempted to put her in the walker...
  • If it makes you feel better, DD is the same exact way. The pedi said we should be doing a minimum of 5 min. tummy time each day. She usually screams the whole time. She tries to push up maybe once or twice each session usually, but she never gets there. She won't roll over, either. So frustrating! The IL's even got her a special mat with a mini Boppy for TT, but it doesn't make much difference.
