Re: Leg Cramps (calf muscle)

  • I have gotten them quite a few times. Not fun, especially when I wake my boyfriend up by grabbing his arm, squeezing and yelping when he is fast asleep...whoops!

  • YES! oh my gosh I've been having them like crazy but I heard that taking in more calcium will help ease them. So I've been eating a bowl of ceral w/ milk. Good Luck!

  • Yes, very common. Drink more water and eat bananas for potassium.

  • When I have them, if I flex and point my foot a few times, they'll go away quicker.  Or if you can stand to knead them, do it in the direction of your heart.  I just can't stomach touching my muscle cramps for some reason.  It's so gnarled and weird looking!

This is what my Dr told me. I get them almost every night.

  • I asked my OB about this and he said there are 3 factors that can cause leg cramps - low calcium, low potassium and dehydration.
  • Yup, I get them all the time! Doc said to increase my calcium, fluids, and potassium. I drink water like its my job. I have lots of milk/cheese/yogurt when I can, so now I am making sure to eat more bananas! They are a pain.....literally.

  • More water and bananas!! Eat at least one a day. I used to get them growing up too.
  • I eat a banana every night before I go to bed and I haven't gotten one since!
  • I've had them since about 26 weeks.  Mine have gotten worse with time, the other night they woke me up and then this dull ache remained that prevented me from returning to sleep.  It does seem to help if my DH rubs them down with lotion/oil before I go to sleep.
  • I don't any more, but there were a few weeks there when I woke up every night with them. Normal part of pregnancy I'm afraid. Try drinking lots of water, eating food with potassium and stretching before bed.
