How much do you spend on baby shower presents?

I'm curious what the going rate is to spend on a first-time mama that isn't your BF.

  • $50 or so. It depends on how close we are. For one of my really good friends, we spent about $75 total; present, book, wrapping paper, etc. For not as good friends, it comes down to about $35 or so.

  • Depends on who it is.

Family I like who is respectful to me $100-150

Family that acts douchey to me $20

Friends (I don't hang with ones I don't like) $75-100 if I am pretty sure they dropped more on me I will make sure I match them.

  • I spend a lot less than everyone else. I've never spent more than about $20 for anyone... now, if/when my sister has a baby, I'll obviously spend more. I have way to many friends/girl cousins to be spending more than that. (Seriously, I'm the oldest of almost 40 grandchildren JUST on my mom's side of the family, and over half of them are girls.)

This.  I have also found myself going to the gift list from my showers to figure out how much that friend spent on me.

  • $30-40.

  • $50-$75.  More if it's someone really close to me.
  • Regular friend - probably around $40. If it was someone I know that was in "need" (as in my cousin who is a hair dresser and doesn't make much money at all) I am inclined to spend more.

  • For a really good friend / close relative - $75

    For a casual friend / relative - $30 -$40

I usually do a gift basket w/ diapers, wipes, lotions, baby washes, washcloths, etc. I'll put in more or less depending on the person. And since I always have a giant stockpile of baby coupons, I get everything cheaper.

  • Probably $40-ish, after you factor in the gift bag and bow.

  • Someone who isn't a really close friend - $50 or so.

  • Usually around $50.  If it's a really close friend or family member I'll buy one of their bigger items - so around $100-$150.
  • I usually spend about $50 or so for a friend.
  • Depends on the person. A good friend/co-worker who has been TTC since 2006, finally pg w/twins, I was/am so excited for her, I went overboard. Way... $200-ish (PNP, toys from registry, books, teddy bears, outfits, card, etc)

For some family, maybe $100, for "eh" people, maybe $35-50. Or less if they're really "eh" but we feel obligated....

  • $50

  • around $50. i spend more money on close friends and family members like around $75-$100
  • Between $20 - $40.  For a close friend or relative, $50 - $100.  My sister's shower is coming up soon, so I'll be dropping more than I typically spend on showers.
