I went to Babies R Us to get a gate yesterday & my FAT cat cleared the thing like she was an Olympic hurdler. Has anyone had any luck with a certain gate or other solution (links appreciated).
We have 3 nosy cats and are putting a screen door on the baby's room - taking off the main door and replacing it with a screen door we bought at Home Depot for around $60. It seemed like the best solution to keep the cats out but still give the room an "open door" feel so I can hear the baby easily. I didn't like the idea of keeping the door closed all the time.
My cats can jump over anything. A gate would never keep them out. We just keep DD's door closed all the time. We have a video monitor and can see and hear what she's doing so it doesn't bother me. And, it's actually safer (for fire reasons) to keep the door closed.
My cousins also used a screen door. They painted it pink and stenciled some flowers on it so it looked darling. I thought they were just extra creative, and commented on it and they laughed and said, it's to keep the cat out!
Ok, so I know this sounds silly, but my sister put a screen door on the nursery. It actually doesn't look wierd at all and it sort of got her pets used to the baby and the smells of the baby without letting them IN the nursery... just a suggestion. I have a cat, too-- not planning on the screen door, but thought it was creative!
There is no way any gate would hold back our cat. He is quite a jumper. We are just going to keep the nursery door shut. My dog can bust through gates anyway so we want to keep them both out.
We bought a cheap screen door for 30 bux at Rona...we are taking off the other door and using the screen for a few months, just in case. I didn't really want to have to keep the solid door closed all the time.
we're actually putting in a pull down screen in the doorframe for when Gummi Bear is in her room and we're not with her. When she's not in the room, we're just shutting the door.
Along the lines of a screen door, we just got 2 large panels of screen that we hung from the top of the doorway and we just have some velcro to keep it attached to the sides and I've made some cute little ties so when its not covering the doorway, I can roll it up and tie it in place. (we got two panels of it because the doorway is wide and they overlap to cover the whole space)

Did she jump on the top and then jump down? Or just completely clear it?
I've heard this gate works pretty well, but it's a bit pricey. Might be worth it though:

Cats usually jump up, find their footing and then jump down. This gate is flexible, so they can't land anywhere on the top of it.
