Cara's 4 month appt was this morning and I told the pedi what had been going on with her and that I had given up dairy. He agreed that some of the things, especially the green poop, spit up and crying, sounded like it could be more than just a fussy baby.
He's very conservative when it comes to treatment/tests which is why I like him--he doesn't freak out over Lila's weight--but as a result he didn't want to do any more than just tell me to continue to stay off of dairy. He said a blood test at this point could result in false positives for allergies and since we dont' have a family history it's likely not a true allergy.
For now he said I should stay off of dairy but not worry about eliminating anything else. He also told me to start giving her probiotics to help increase the good bacteria in her intestines. He said if at 6 months she wasn't fully better then we would reevaluate and run some tests.
Mostly I want to say THANK YOU for all of the help from everyone, especially Zenya and REOM, in "diagnosing" her and helping me get started on dairy free. I hear the Nest. ![]()
Re: Update on Cara and a THANK YOU
so glad you got some answers and can start to help her! yay
the girls here are awesome with that stuff, so much knowledge
I have had this discussion endlessly with at least 8 different doctors, all peds and some ped specialist, including 2 GI doctors.
Green poop indicates nothing. Absolutely nothing.
joseys-- Yes, I have seen some improvement. She's not "better" but she is sleeping more and not crying for 45 min to an hour at a time which is a huge relief! It's been 9 days so I'm hoping as time goes on that she'll keep getting better. (I'm still going to talk to my chiro about her too though.)
JOE--I've heard that too, but Cara's is also slimy and SMELLY which is not normal for a BF baby.
So, so glad to hear she is doing better! I hope YOU are doing better, too!

awesome! I'm really happy to read that.
I feel very frustrated with the whole issue. I don't know how often I hear people with miserable babies just writing it off as 'colic'. It's not their fault. It's ignorance in the medical profession.
