XP - help! pumping emergency!

I've been having problems pumping for about a month. DD eats fine, but I just can't get anything out when I pump. I figured it wasn't a big deal since I'm home w/her most of the time, and I just supplement when I'm away.

Well, I went out of town today for a business trip. It has been 7 hours since she ate. I'm slightly engorged, but I still can't pump! I have no idea what's going on. Very little is coming out. I know there is milk in there, I can feel it. My pump seems to be working fine. All of the parts are moving like they always do, and it feels the same as it always does. I'm freaking out because I might dry up if I go over 24 hours without getting anything out until I get home tomorrow night.

What should I do? I'm in New York without a car, so buying a higher grade pump is out of the question. Plus, mine isn't that bad (lansinoh double electric), and it always worked for me before.

  • I've heard that sometimes tension can affect your let-down.

I don't pump, but I've read doing things like going to a quiet room, relaxing as much as possible, looking at a picture of baby (or smelling something baby has worn, but I don't think thats possible for you) can help with let-down. possibly breast massage and a warm compress as well.

    Good luck!

  • Can you try warm compresses? Try getting in the shower and hand expressing just to get things started. I wish I was more help! That's got to be uncomfy!
  • Did everything turn out ok last night?

  • I have a medela pump so I'm not sure if the pump you have has this as well but if I change the membranes on mine that significantly helps.

  • I had that pump and had that same problem, even after buying new pump parts. In my opinion, the suction on that pump isn't the best. I bought the PISA and have not had this problem again.
