Dumb question: What does being dilated feel like?

I've been dying to ask this... so for 2nd timers or those that are far along what does being dilated feel like? My doc doesn't do internals so are there signs or symptoms of dilation?

You can't feel it. I was walking around for 5 days 4cm dilated and had no idea.

I was dilated 1 cm last week and have another appointment tomorrow. I've had so many little pains and cramps and limp body parts - I have no idea what part of this is contributing to dilating... but I hope all of it!

I am 1cm dialated. I knew I was progressing because I had alot of intense menstral like cramping, and BH. However, it doesnt feel different down there or anything.

It doesn't feel like anything. Right now I am 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced and feel nothing.

Same here. Last pregnancy and this one, I can't feel dilation or effacement.

yea...you don't actually feel yourself dilating; and there aren't any symptoms other than contractions, but contractions may or may not dilate you.

I dont really think you can feel it but I told my OB i get the tinging pains every now and again that they feel like they are up inside...she said it could be my cervix changing.
