mall-type portrait studios -recs

As much as we'd love to have professional photos taken of DC it's just not in the budget right now.  I'd love to have some 12 mo pictures taken of him though.  What places do you recommend (I'm thinking Picture People, etc).

TIA!

  • I've always gone to Clique Portrait Studio in Lakeline and I really like it. You can get their CD without paying an arm and a leg, that's what I always do.

When we've gone there has either always been a girl, or a guy. The girl is better, so if you go there, I'd try to get an appt with her. She looks about college age...I can't remember her name though.

  • I've gone to Picture People twice and was pleased with the results. I definitely recommend Lakeline (Tiffany is good) over Barton Creek though.

Granted both times I went, I had a free portrait package coupon...Embarrassed

  • I've had good experiences at Portrait Innvoations near Lakeline.

  • Do you have coupons somewhere? From a photography standpoint, they're all generally the same. A lot of it depends on who is behind the camera at your session.

If you look closely at the prices of some of those places, you'll find they're not all that much less expensive than what you can get with pros in the area if you don't have discounts. You may not have to pay a session fee, but they make up for it in their print sales. Also, read the fine print on their print packages - most of them have a requirement that all the different sizes of images you get have to be of the same pose.

I'd do some price comparisons before you decide :) Also, I think fjaril is holding a casting call. Not sure if she's filled all her spots or what the deal includes, but I'd definitely go for something like that over a mall-type studio. I'm admittedly biased, though! :)

  • We went to Portrait Innovations and we were really happy. They currently have a $9.95 package special but it is only for one pose. When we went for Christmas the Photographer did such an amazing job with DS that we ended up spending a lot more money because we just couldnt say no to the pictures!!! We went to the one off of Brodie
  • I like Tracey at Picture People at Lakeline.

Go with a coupon -- you can always get a 8x10 or10x13 for free.  You can get them on their website. I'm a member of the Portrait Club ($40? I think) and with the free pics on those, I usually get out of there spending $8 for 3 sheets.  (the free coupon one, the free portrait club one, and the $10 off a sheet portrait club thingie).

I also love the pro photographers, but yeah, not in my budget.  I so wish they were because they do great things.  But I don't think I'll get anything for $8 from a pro, and the $8 at the mall is better than I get on my own with my point & shoot.

You can email me at therealnanann at gmail and I'll send you a link to my last session.  (has my real name on it, so not posting it here).

  • We went to Picture People for first birthday pictures this past weekend. I would rather have booked a photographer but I waited until the last minute and I needed the pictures ASAP. We had a great experience. I definitely agree with Libby that they are not much cheaper than a professional photographer depending on what you buy. We printed a coupon from the website.

Here's the link to Caroline's pictures (if you haven't already looked via fb):

    Her spots are full.
  • We've used Picture People and been happy.  Why not go and at least get the free picture?  I would definitely say if it isn't in the budget it's worth giving Picture People a shot because you can get that free picture.  Also, watch some of the photogs on this board, they do mini sessions for great prices!
