Not WM related, FB update competition with a friend

We have friends with a son close to DS, about 2 weeks younger.  No matter what, when I post a video she has to post a video of her kid doing something more amazing.

So I posted a video of DS walking so we could share it with various family members. He is still teetering but made 5ish good steps, stopping in the middle to get his balance.  Im proud of that!  2 hours later there was a video of her kid walking unassisted chasing the cat.  WTF? Not the first time this happened.

I should create a video of E doing something like building a rocket ship or ordering food in Chinese, and post it just to see what she could come up with.

This just cracked me up!  I have been in a similar situation as you many, many times since DD was born. It's not very fun.

  • My SIL is sort of like that but with her comments to my posts. If I say 'Another day at the peds office', she'll comment 'Welcome to parenthood'.

This summer I posted that we were taking a break from travel and all family/friends were welcome to visit us and her comment was 'people with young kids have been visiting you for years'. We had just traveled to them 4 our of 5 weekends while they visit us 1-2 times a year.

It just seems like every time I post something about our life/situation she has to have it noted that she's been doing this longer and that it's not anything I should post about.

  • It is hard but some people just always have to one up other people or love to compare or brag if they think their child is the best child in the world.  I have a few friends and a cousin and we all have kids around the same age and it cna be hard to not share a simlair story about things our kids are doing and who is saying what.  It doesn't happen all the time and I know no harm or mean things are meant by it, its jsut a way of sharing in the pain/joy/frustration.  I know I have done it at times and I people have done it to me.  If it really bothers you, mention to them.

  • I can't stand one uppers!!! I'm sure your other friends see right through her actions.
  • I wouldn't worry about it. She obviously feels the need to prove something. Don't stoop to her level.

  • Can you block her from seeing those video's? Sometimes when you upload/post something, you can choose who can see it. You might consider blocking those uploads every now and then just to relieve yourself of the drama!

That would drive me nuts. It sounds like this is just her personality. And, I'm sure you know, people who do things like this, often have pretty low self esteem. While it still doesn't change her behavior, perhaps you can find some solice in knowing that she is doing it only to make herself feel better. If you're content with your life...then don't worry about her!
