D.C. Area Babies

Inova visiting restrictions

are lifted:) well, almost, they are still restricting hours, but you can now have anyone come visit, with the exception that children who are not siblings have to be over the age of 12. i'm not positive of the hours at the other hospitals, but at loudoun visiting hours are between 11-1 and 6-8, support person with the "baby band" unlimited hours. i know the nicu is still restricting the visitors to parents and grandparents of the baby only.

Re: Inova visiting restrictions

  • Too bad they didn't keep the restrictions until May.  I was hoping to keep my ILs at bay while I was in labor unlike last time where they barged in unannounced and uninvited.  I mentioned something to my DH about them coming in recently and hoping they would wait until invited and he made it seem like it wasn't a big deal because I didn't have my feet up in the stirrups or wasn't pushing.  I just would have liked for it to have been on my terms not their terms.

  • You could lie to them;) I totally understand...both sets of parents were under strict orders that they were not allowed to come to the hospital until we said it was okay, and if they did come before we "allowed" they would have to wait in the lobby till we were ready. I really feel that the parents need time to bond with the baby, mom needs time to recover, breastfeed the baby, etc, without grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc visiting. I know some people want the grandparents there right away, but we definitely did not. It was nice to have him just to us for the first few hours:) I hope your inlaws are more respectful this time! And there's a group evaluating the visiting policy, and possibly making permanent changes to it, so maybe that will work out in your favor. I know that while some people were really upset by the visiting restrictions, for others it was very nice for them, to have the time in the hospital to focus on the baby and not have to worry about extra visitors.
  • This would be why nobody knew I was in labor until we were on our way home with the baby.  My mom, who was living a three hour plane ride away at the time, expected me to let her know as soon as I was in labor so she could make it.  yeah, right.
  • OMG, you just made my day!!  So excited that DS can come visit me in the hospital, since he has some special needs and is very attached to Mommy right now -- I wasn't sure how he was going to handle 4 days without seeing me!

  • I was so upset with the policy changes when we had DS in October (but understood they were necessary). Now DH and I agree it was the best thing that could have happened. We got all that time with just us and him and it really was such a special experience for us. I was so sure I wanted people there, it will be a hard decision for me next time!
