Day 7 of this stomach virus (a vent)

I don't know why it's hitting me so hard today, but WTF?  DD #2 has had diarrhea for seven freaking days now.  Each time we call the pedi they say just lots of liquids, bland food, etc.

I'm going to call again today.  I mean, 7 days?  Not to mention the mass amounts of sick leave DH and I are burning staying home with her.  Come on, there has to be something else I can do to get this kid better?

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.

  • I'm sure you're doing this already, but are you keeping her away from dairy, including milk?  DD had an awful stomach bug last Thursday night that started with vomiting all.night.long., and was followed by two days of diarrhea.  We were told to skip milk for a day or two even AFTER the diarrhea was gone.  She was better by Sunday (then DH got sick, blah).  It was awful to not allow her to have milk since she is so used to drinking 24 oz/day, but it was worth it.  She lived on water, a little Pedialyte, and white rice mixed with applesauce (she refused bananas and bread).  I hope this helps a little.  We were miserable all weekend, I can't imagine it lasting a full week!!!

  • You've probably already done this, but DD has the same thing for about a week and DH & I caught it too. I finally started disinfecting everything (bathrooms/common areas/toys) everyday for about 4 days and that seemed to finally end the cycle of us being sick. Could be coincidence, but I heard this virus is super strong and highly virulent and it is easy to keep getting reinfected. Hope DD is feeling better soon!

  • DS had the same thing about a week and a half ago - ugh. Sorry you're dealing with it. He had the watery diarrhea and it lasted about 6 days. Hoping your DD is on the tail end of it!

  • Yuck- no advice here but I feel your pain. DH had some nasty stomach bug over the weekend and couldn't hold anything down. We had to go to the ER Sunday night because he needed fluids.  They said there is a bad Norovirus going around.  Hope things look up soon!
