DD almost fell out of a shopping cart at Lowes

I meant to post this last week when it happened, but we were staying with MIL and I didn't get online much.

Anyway, we were at Lowe's in Woodbridge looking at runners for our stairs.  I strapped DD into the cart, and was talking to an associate in the flooring dept.  I heard her scream, and looked over to see her dangling backwards and upside down by her legs/waist.  She was almost completely into the back part of the cart, and I quickly grabbed her and tried to calm her down.  She was freaked out and it was extremely scary.

I just wanted to let everyone know about this, because their carts are obviously unsafe.  I noticed that the baby seat leans back a lot, whereas other carts in other stores sit straight up.  DD is not a little climber or very adventurous at all, so it's not like she has a habit of trying to get out of shopping carts.  The fact that the seat reclined so much allowed her to almost fall backwards out of it, even with the seatbelt on tightly.  I don't even want to think of what would have happened if I had been more than two feet away.

I already wrote to corporate and explained to them about the incident, so they can maybe look into preventing this in the future.  I just thought I should post an FYI.

  • very scary! i'm trying to picture it...was she in one of the carts that has an extra seat, like a car seat almost, on top of the cart, or just a regular cart(that's poorly designed, i guess!), sitting in the front seat?

Just the regular cart seat in the front.  This one reclined back about 30 or 40 degrees, while I've always seen other carts with straight backs.  I thought it just looked comfy, but I guess it was dangerous, too.
