Righteous Gas

TMI Warning!

So, I've had some seriously righteously heinous gas lately.  As in, my stomach hurts so bad I feel like I'm going to explode.  I'm not constipated or anything & I'm 100% positive it's gas b/c it feels better when I burp/fart.

Is there anyway to prevent this or is it just a joy of pregnancy?  Last time I got it to stop by massaging my stomach.

Re: Righteous Gas

  • The title of your post has me cracking up! Sadly, it is one of the joys of preg.  I had really bad gas last time, but this preg. hasn't been too bad.

I wish I had some advice...but thank you for the laugh!

  • LOL!  My husband doesn't know if he should feel bad (that I'm in pain b/c I'm the one that "gets" to incubate the baby) or be totally grossed out.  It's really funny watching his struggle...one moment he'll be all "is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" and the next he's trying to pretend like he didn't smell a fart.

  • I used Gas-X with Maalox. It helped a little (although I was more, um, belchy than anything else?).

  • I totally could have written this post.  I have no suggestions though :(.  Other than that I tend to eat too much in one sitting and that leads to miserable feelings...ugh

  • ROFL!!  I had really bad gas when I was pregnant. It helped when I would rub my belly or my back. I think that this is what my husband will remember most during my pregnancy was the awful smell that I produced while pregnant. I can say thank God I have been gas free since baby came.
  • it's just one of those awful pregnancy things...one time I had gas pain so bad, I had to lean against the wall and take deep breaths. GasX is safe but doesn't help too much
  • I popped Gas X like Tic Tacs when I was pregnant.  (Alternating with Tums, because what's better than just gas, but gas AND heartburn!)

And you know, now that I think about it, DD had NASTY gas issues.  I wonder if it's her fault and not just pregnancy generally? :P

  • Right after I had my IUI I had sharp gas pains - they said it was because I was on prometrium while my body was also producing progesterone on it's own. The advice they gave me seems to be the standard advice given for a lot of things in pregnancy -

    - eat small, frequent meals instead of three larger meals

    - don't gulp water - take small sips

    - avoid all carbonated beverages - like sodas, perrier, etc.

Although, in all honesty, even if you do all these things you'll probably still have some issues.  But at least you will know you are preventing it from getting any worse...

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!!

  • OMG, I remember this from last time!!  At work I wouldn't ever go in anyone's office or cube, I'd just stand at the door and aim away from them.  It wasn't painful for me, just frequent and stinky.  My son toots so much that I could probably blame it on him when it starts up again, hahaha!
