Co-Sleeping Question

Hello,

I am expecting LO #1 - and I have a co-sleeping question: Does anyone find that they sleep better/more peacefully when their little one in nearby?  I have an arms reach which is where LO will start out for sure, and I am curious about this.  I find that if my dogs or husband are in my bed I sleep much more soundly (maybe its their breathing?) and I wonder if LO will have the same effect on me.  Hopefully this doesn't sound selfish, I realize I am not actually the center of the universe and I have a feeling fatigue will be a major factor....but I would love to hear from co-sleeping parents.  Thanks!

Re: Co-Sleeping Question

  • For me yes - especially in the early days you get a ton more sleep having baby right there.  I also think I sleep better knowing he's right there - I'd be quick to know if something were wrong vs. him being across the house.

  • I had DD in a ARC for the first four months and in the beginning it definitely helped me sleep better.  I loved having her there.  She isn't a great sleeper however, and as she got older I found I was listening to every little sound, just waiting for her to wake up again.  That was when it was time to transition her.  Recently though she wakes up so much I have considered bringing her back so I can just nurse her to sleep without getting up.  I don't think I am goign to though.
  • I slept better knowing DD was right there until she was 6 months old, then she started kicking too much and I moved her to her own bed in our room. she is still close but now she isnt kicking me all night.

  • I found it surprising to find out that babies are LOUD sleepers.  They make loud, sudden sounds, breath heavy and yelp.  No kidding.  Of course, they can be soothing, too.  Overall, I slept easier b/c I could simply reach over to comfort her rather than tramp down the hallway.
My darling daughter just turned 4 years old.
