2nd Trimester

Anyone's Dr not mention a Quad Screen?

My Dr didn't even mention it at my last appointment (I will be 20 weeks next Monday).

I had an NT scan and bloodwork at 12 weeks which came back very low risk, and an anatomy ultrasound at 18 weeks.

Does the need for a Quad Screen depend on your NT scan results, or is it usually done anyway? I am over 35. Thanks!

Re: Anyone's Dr not mention a Quad Screen?

  • My doctor never asked. She actually talked me out of doing the quad screen then I came back and demanded it be done. Everything turned out just fine.

  • I had my last appt to find out the gender a week ago and I havent heard anything about it... weird
  • Every office is different .. some do the NT and then send for Quad if necessary.. others discourage both altogether.

I'm surprised that they wouldnt offer it to you at all, I thought after 30 they offer all the extra testing..?

I think it had to be done at 16wks? not positive though.

  • Mine didn't mention it at all. i also didn't have an NT scan. I would say that if everything else has been coming back normal and low risk, then your doc not mentioning it is a good thing! Must be very confident that LO is doing GREAT in there!

  • With my first two kids I turned down the NT scan and my dr never mentioned the quad screen.

This time my dr did ask me, he said it is best done between 16 weeks and 20 ish weeks I think.

Maybe since you had the NT scan?

  • My doctor never mentioned it. It didn't really matter to me; DH and I had alreadly discussed and decided that no matter what, we are having this baby. But, we're both young, and in good health, so perhaps my doc didn't feel it necessary. If I had decided I watned it, I would have brought it up. I would say if you're concerned, ask her about it...but we're not doing it.

  • My Dr. is totally not into all those screenings and tests. I don't think he brought the quad screen up. My OB for DD did, but I ended up skipping it anyway. I wouldn't worry about it.
