Babies: 0 - 3 Months

12 week Old Feeding Question

I have twins and am recently back to work so they are now eating more from bottles as opposed to being nursed during the day.  DS is about 12 lbs and eats around 30 oz per day.  DD is smaller and probably just over 10 lbs.  I can barely get 25 oz a day into her.  Anyone else have a baby that is eating around that much? I feel like I am starving her but the kid is happy and she has wet and dirty diapers. I guess Im just looking for reassurance.

  • That doesn't sound abnormal. From Kellymom.com:

The research tells us that exclusively breastfed babies take in an average of 25 oz (750 mL) per day between the ages of 1 month and 6 months. Different babies take in different amounts of milk; a typical range of milk intakes is 19-30 oz per day (570-900 mL per day).

  • This is the rule of thumb I have been using....From what I read on babycenter.com for every 1lb your baby weights they should be eating around 2.5oz.  So 30oz for your 12lb is perfect and 25oz for 10lb is also perfect.  My lil one is 13lbs right now and is normally eating 32oz a day.
  • Thanks ladies.  I did read that on Kellymom but then when I read posts about how much people are feeding their babies, I get paranoid because mine have never eaten over a 6 oz bottle.  Thanks again.

    And Hiiiiii Pickle-new-mama!

  • I just recently went back to work and Lanie is barely eating 4oz bottles.  She eats about 7 times a day though.  So that figures out to be around 28oz if she's eating 4 when I nurse her.  And she's a CHUNK.  She was 13lbs 2oz at 2 months.
