My MIL is a genius. My back was really sore over the weekend when we were visiting them and she had the best idea! She has this thing she calls a "corn cozy". Maybe I am just out of the loop and this is something many people know nothing about, but I just learned about them this weekend and it is a God send.
My doctor said it was fine to use a heating pad - so I was clear there. Well, this corn cozy is just that except without having to be plugged in and it's portable. You simply make a bag out of fabric and fill it with squirrel type corn. You heat it in the microwave and ta da! Instant portable heating pad! She heated it up for me and I took it on our 1 hour car trip and it was still warm by the time we got there. I used it all weekend and she let me bring it home with me so I have been using it all week.
Just thought I would share!
Re: PSA: Heating pad Alternative
Oooh good idea!
In our labor/delivery class we also learned about the 'rice sock'. basically you take one of DH's socks, fill it with a pack of rice (I think 1 lb bag??), tie off at the end, and heat up in the microwave! Similar ideas
She suggested keeping this in our hospital bag for possible back labor relief...

Although the dog is very confused why she can't eat it when it is nice and warm......
