I am sitting in the PICU with my sweet baby girl Lola. She has RSV. I brought her to the ER last week because of her cough, and they sent me home saying she was fine, and that I was overfeeding her - causing relfux. She coughed through the night so I made an appt with the pediatrician. At this point Lola is 9 days old. The pedi told me roughly the same thing. He said she was not sick and just had to get fluid out of her body. Finally after an entire weekend of coughing, my husband and I took her back to the pediatrician on Monday to have her looked at again. They tested her for RSV and she came back positive. At the doctors office, they did an albuterol treatment, and suctioned her nose. They also did a chest xray. Her airways started to close up and she stopped breathing in my arms. They rushed her by ambulance to the PICU unit at a childrens hostpital close by. She has been intubated and on a ventilator.
I am so heartbroken by all of this. I cant get the picture of my little baby girl looking so lifeless out of my head.
You might remember me mentioning my mother in law who came to visit us in the hospital when Lola was born. She was sick with a cold and didnt tell anyone. PLEASE!! Do be extra careful when having visitors to the hospital. Even if they dont know it, they could be sick. RSV shows up as a common cold in adults - but is much more severe in infants.
And please pray for little Lola. She is in stable condition now, but is not out of the woods. For now we just have to wait for the virus to run its course.
Re: My worst nightmare
Holy crap, please poke your MIL in the eye for me!! She should know better!!!!
Praying for your sweet baby girl!!
T & P coming your way!!
(((hugs)))
T&P! I am so, so sorry. Here's hoping little Lola heals quickly.
And, I fully get your frustration; both my SM and my MIL had fvcking pneumonia the week before Jack was born, and BOTH of them visited him in NICU. I was SO p!ssed Luckily, he didn't get sick, but it could have gotten bad very quickly.
I am so sorry. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. (I would punch my MIL if she did that.)
Nasty~ What the hell is wrong with your MIL? Who the heck goes to a NICU sick? Throat punches for the lot of them.
