HepB vaccination

I'm joining you ladies from the 3rd tri group.  We were just informed during our birthing class that newborn infants receive the Hepatitis B vaccine before discharge.  What are your thoughts on this vaccination?  Did you allow this vaccination or not? TIA!

Re: HepB vaccination

  • I assuming your birthday class was held at/conducted by the Hospital where you are giving birth?  I ask because not all hospitals give this vaccine before discharge.  Ours didn't.  I believe you can tell them you opt not to have it during your delivery/hospital stay, that you will be taking care of all shots through your Pediatrician's office....

  • Nope, we were able to decline the shot and we did.  DD had it at her 1 month well baby visit.

  • I'm a firm believer in following the standard vaccination schedule. As such, DD got the Hep. B vaccine before we left the hospital.
  • I didn't have a problem with him getting it at the hospital, although we could have declined and done it through his pedi at the 1-week appt.

  • We declined hep b at the hospital.  We're doing all other vaccinations on the standard schedule, but I thought it was silly to give a newborn a vaccine. I have nothing to back me up.  I just went with my gut.  He will get his first hep b shot at his one month visit.

  • We declined at the hospital because LO was 5 weeks early and I didn't want a tiny baby like that to have a shot that he could get later.   He will get it at his 2 month check up.

This, almost word for word. Also, because of my pedi's recommendation, we haven't had a Hep B shot yet (2 month vax were today). She said since DD doesn't have any risk factors, we can get it later on.
  • We declined it at the hospital.  He will get his first Hep B shot at 2mos.  This is the only variation I am making to the standard vaccine schedule.
  • My pediatrician does not like the Hep B vax, so LO did not get it. I didn't even know she felt that way, I found out after. I wasn't upset... I mean... he's totally not allowed to have sex or use intravenous drugs AT ALL, so there's no risk of him getting it now. :D He can get it when he's older!

  • We declined the Hep B at the recommendation of our pediatrician.  I do not believe in vaccinating a child that early...especially a vaccination that is not (in my opinion) necessary at that age.
  • got the 1st dose in the hospital. we will get the 2nd dose when she's 1 month. you can opt not to get it and will have to sign paperwork if you take this route.

  • I don't remember being asked whether we wanted it or not, but I do remember getting handed a little "shot card" indicating our LO had gotten it.  I'm not anti-vaccine, so it wasn't a big deal to me, but I was somewhat surprised that we didn't have to sign off on something.

  • DD got one like literally as soon as she came out. They were cleaning her off and did it. She didnt even cry, no big deal. I didnt see any reason to decline it...

  • We had to sign a consent form to get the Hep B vax. He will get it tonight, before we bring him home tomorrow.

  • We are not giving this shot to Lily until she is older. There is no risk of her getting this disease at this stage because she will not be having sex or be sharing needles. No need for this.

  • The first neo that saw us in the nicu recommended that we wait on hep b until her 1 month appt.
  • OUR PEDI GIVES IT AT 2 MONTH APPT
