Who has done progesterone suppositories after IUI?

Was given vaginal prog. suppositories to do after IUI yest. I'm sure it was  because I was on the lupron this round but it just feels my privates can't get a break, always something going in there! DH goes "man, what are those" when I showed him. I'm afraid they won't dissolve or will fall out if I'm not laying down for 20 mins. Any s/e to those?

Re: Who has done progesterone suppositories after IUI?

  • I used them last cycle but not after IUI. I took 1 before bed so I didnt have any s/e. I start them again on Thursday.

  • I do these, even with an unmedicated TI cycle.

They are no problem. I get PMSy symptoms, some unseemly discharge,  and no AF, but it never falls out or anything like that.

    Good luck!

    ETA: one at night.

  • I've always used them after my IUIs. I only take one, though, at night when I go to bed. I never had any problems or issues with them.

The only s/e I had was extreme exhaustion.

  • I use them and they are not too bad. I used prometrium for my IUIs and I just wore a liner.  I too took them before bed and no really side effects for me.

But some people get pregnancy symptoms from the progesterone like sore boobs and cramping

  • I am doing 1 in the am & 1 at night. So I set my phone alarm for 20 mins earlier to get up, put that in & lay back down for another 20 mins for my regular alarm to wake up for work. I have seen small amount of white wax particles after wiping but nurse said that is fine.
  • I do one in the am and one in the pm after IUI.  They won't fall out but they definitely "leak" a bit.  I always wear a panty liner after I put it in.  I did have cramping and felt more tired than usual.

  • I take them with every cycle usually. They can be a PITA as they do leak. I definately suggest wearing a panty liner. What one are you on? I have take both Endonetrin (2/ day) and Crinone (1/day). I get sore bbs, really tired and usually a few pimples from them ( I know, fun fun). GL with them ! :)

I think it just says "progesterone suppositories, insert into vagina". They are white & rounded on one side & look like a tip of a candle stick.
  • I took them pretty much after every IUI.  Make sure to insert deep because the residue may make you TMI feel raw down there.  Wear a pantyliner to catch the residue that will leak out.

    No real s/e felt.

  • Are they big white pills? It sounds like Endometrin or generic Endometrin. I found those pretty easy. GL! Btw, you don't have to lie down after insertion. It won't fall out. My nurse told me that it's actually better to move around right after to help it absorb. She said that if you take it and then lay still for a long time or go straight to bed it just builds up more but doesn't get absorbed more. Hope that helps or gets you 20 extra mins. of sleep in the morning :)

  • Yes they do look like big white pills. I have to keep them refrigerated. I was told by my nurse & intruction sheet to lay in lying position for 20-25 mins. I haven't noticed much discharge from them. I was thinking I would get an applicator but I guess not.

Ok they might be a little different then. Endometrin does not have to be refridgerated and the have an applicator. Hope you have an easy time with yours. :)

  • I've done prometrium suppositories after IUI's.  I did them 2x a day, at night before bed and first thing in the morning.  The night one was easier because I just went to sleep.  At first, when I was doing them in the morning I would lay down for the full 15-20 mins.  But, sometimes I just don't feel like I have that kind of time to "lay around" in the morning.  So, I started just laying down for 5 - 10 mins. after putting one in and didn't notice any difference.  No more leaked out throughout the day than it did when I waited for 15-20 mins.

  • I haven't actually used them yet, but I was given them to use after my last Clomid/IUI cycle that ended up being a bust...I'm assuming I'll use them with this Follitism cycle too, but I guess I'll find out for sure today.

  • I am on week 2 of the supps...the first week was way worse for me (my RE has me on them twice a day).  I was very nauseous last week...this week, my boobs are huge and sore...DH is a big fan of this s/e....he was like, what's going to happen when you're actually pg??  hahaha, men!

It seems like everyone has diff reaction to these but just want to let you know what mine were...the only thing I found to help the nausea was the Sea Bands (you get them at the drug store), since they keep pressure on a point that controls nausea.

  • After first IUI, I asked for them when I found out I was pregnant. Although there is some leakage, no side effects at all. Ez to insert; not as messy as I expected. Helps to lie down for 30 mins after insertion. My HGC number keeps jumping which means the pregnancy continues... Happy happy!!!! Worth a lil mess. :-)
