GD and working night shift

Is there anyone else that works the night shift and finds it hard to get into a good eating schedule. I work 12 hrs nights, but only work at the most 3 days at a time. I find it hard to get into a schedule because on my days off I am usually awake for appointments or just hanging out with friends.

I have been fighting to be put on the day shift but it looks like that isnt going to happen.

Re: GD and working night shift

  • I was scheduled to work the night shift when I first got diagnosed and I was worried about the havoc it would wreak on my numbers.  I spoke with my doctor and she wrote me a note to take to my boss saying that I was unable to work that shift.  Could you try that?

  • All I can say is good luck, and maybe try what the PP suggested.  When I got my diagnosis all I could think (aside from the suckage) is "thank God I don't work nights anymore".  I was a terrible night shift worker though, and would sometimes only manage to eat one meal a day.
  • yea, you are going to have to talk with your ob about that.  i don't see you being able to control your blood sugars that way.  i mean, insulin resistance goes up at night/morning so often our gd meal plans require us to alter our eating depending on time of day.  it would be really hard to flip flop your days and nights.  gl
  • I mentioned working night shift to the nurse practioner and she said to just work around it.    But at the most I eat 2 real meals a day with snacks.  Usually I am sleeping for either breakfast or lunch. Also,  I didn't change my eating schedule prior to the diagnosis of gd.  I just had to change what i ate.  :(
