To paint or to stain? (Clicky poll)

We're doing a nautical/beach/sea theme in Little Lobster's nursery. I bought an unfinished ship wheel to hang on the wall along with some other things.

The walls are blue and the furniture is oak.

I have a white life preserver ring with red stripes and a few other red accents.

I'm putting a stained "treasure" chest on the dresser/changer for the lotions, powders, sanitizers, butt paste, etc.

    Since the walls are blue and there is a white life preserver... I think I'd paint the wheel white. Either paint, or so a white wash so it looks a little wethered (if that goes with your decor.)

    I said paint it red, but you can get this paint from IKEA (milk paint, I think) that lets the grain of the wood show through, and I think that would be really nice!
