64oz of water?!

I have my ultrasound in 1 1/2 hours.. the prescription says to drink 64oz of water 2 hours before and don't pee. Ok, I get that its better for the bladder to bed full, but thats a freaking gallon of water! I just drank 32 oz, and I already have to pee sooo bad.

Do I really need to drink the other 1/2 gallon or do you think I'm ok?

I was only told to drink 32 and I am worried...I couldn't do 64...YIKES! Sorry I am not much help.

Oh, you are more than fine. Please dont drink the other half gallon, you'll pee all over the place when they start doing the u/s. I think my bladder would rupture if I drank even 32 oz and had to hold it for 2 hours. An hour is more than adequate.

I was told to just have a full bladder--if you already need to pee I'd say you probably drank enough.

That seems like a lot-- in fact, it's twice as much as I had to drink before any u/s I've had. For my 18w u/s, they actually had me empty my bladder first.

I've had sooo many pelvic u/s over the years (for cysts) and I always drink about 2 tall glasses of water an hour before and I've never had a problem. Depends what body size you are too; smaller women can get away with drinking less water than is recommended.

I was told 64 ounces 1 hour before for my NT US a couple weeks ago. I could barely walk. Fortunately the tech let me release some of it before getting on the table. Once you're there ask if you can go a little. Lots of times they will say yes because they don't want you to get sick. It's so unpleasant. But the first time I had my NT US I didn't have enough water in my bladder so I had to go back.

I was told to drink 16 oz of water. I cheated with THAT much! I ended up peeing once before I went in. I just didn't tell them that of course. haha 64 oz of water seems like WAY too much! That must have been a typo! You're supposed to drink 64 oz of water during the entire day! That can't be right! Just do what you can, and tell them you drank the entire amount (I was told by the receptionist that they can re-schedule you if you don't do it right). You will be fine, I promise.

I drank 3glasses of water an hour before and my bladder was too full. I was suppose to drink 6 glasses 2 hours before. I wouldn't have survived.

I wasn't asked to nor did I drink more than a glass of water before my U/S and they could see everything fine. Please don't drink so much you are uncomfortable and then can't enjoy the experience. Worst case scenario they ask you to drink some more when you get in there.

I am just going to drink 1 liter about an hour before. Otherwise, I will pee it all out before I even go in for my u/s.

I had to drink 16oz 1 hour prior and i ended up using the bathroom in the doc's office and drinking more water b-c i was so miserable!! That soudns outrageous and impossible!

I was never told to drink any water before any of my U/S. I've had 4 so far. I've not drank any more than what my normal pace is for the day. *shrug*

With my first OB I didnt have to drink anything with this one they told me 32 oz one hour ahead..just had the u/s today and I swear I felt like I was going to burst..suprisingly her pushin on me didnt make me have that pee feeling as much as standing did..

My new OB's machine wasnt as clear as my old one I assume the old one had a newer machine.. Good luck!

Stop at 32. I had to empty my bladder twice during an u/s because it was too full ... not to mention extremely painful!

I have Kaiser in CA. They sent me a letter saying 28 oz 1 hour prior. It was fine. Ask if they can check the cervix first, then let you pee. That's why you need the full the bladder.
