I'm going to deliver at AAMC, but my tour of the hospital keeps getting cancelled because of the weather! We have a tour scheduled for tomorrow, and if the snow comes that they're predicting right now, I'm sure it will be cancelled yet again. I'm trying to get my bags packed early because I'm semi-high risk and could likely be sent to L&D immediately from any of my next appointments.
What does AAMC provide for the baby in the hospital, and what will I need to bring? Is there anything besides the "usual" that I should plan on bringing for me? Basically, any advice/recommendations for bag packing/what to expect based specifically on AAMC would be really appreciated!! TIA!
Re: ? for those who delivered at AAMC...
ditto the pp, for the baby, all i brought was his going home outfit and carseat. they provide diapers, hats, blankets, all that stuff there.
for me, I just brought a small bag with slippers, my robe (which I wore over the hospital gown), a nursing bra or 2, scrunchies/headbands, and small thing of toiletries. you might want to bring something to read if you are sitting around waiting for your labor to progress. I did bring a birthing ball (which we left in the car, because they had one there they let me use).
Good luck! I loved delivering there! The nurses were wonderful and really good about listening to my wishes and making me and DH feel at ease.
Ditto PPs.
AAMC provides everything you need!
Definitely bring at least one empty bag to bring home lots of diapers, rec'ing blankets and even a humidifier (if you ask for one it's yours, they are single patient use and they toss them if you don't take them! TAKE IT! Ours is still chugging along 2 yrs later!)
If you deliver vaginally ask for a sitz bath, it will help during your postpartum recovery.
Also if you can get an "extra" postpartum care bag- I got extra numbing spray, ice pack pads, witch hazel pads, giant overnight pads, etc. I was running out of one of those items while I was there and mentioned it and they just gave me a whole extra bag to take home, which was fabulous! Because when you are home w/ a 4 day old the last thing you want to be doing is running out to the CVS to pick up such sexy essentials!
We took home some of the disposable "chuk" pads as well (what they put underneath you after you deliver) and used them on the changing table and for changing DD throughout the house when she was tiny- so we weren't always going upstairs to the changing table.
Like pp said - for baby, just some clothes and a carseat to go home in.
I really didn't need much stuff while in the hospital - toiletries, a couple of magazines, camera, laptop, clothes to go home in. I wore the hospital gowns the whole time so that my own clothes wouldn't get icky.
We have had 2 kids at AAMC and looooove it there.
